Wishful thinking. I know why Prem Rugby (and everyone) would
desperately like to see the season resumed and completed, but
realistically even if playing was possible again by May players
can’t go straight into competitive contact sport after the
longest period of self-training most of them will have had since
they were kids. A more realistic plan is to cancel this season,
start next pre-season early, potentially an earlier start to the
2020-1 season, and maybe even a couple of weeks spare between
the season end and the Lions tour.

Another option could be to actually shift the season over a bit?
Once restrictions are lifted and the players can train again,
there could be a mini pre-season then re-start the present
campaign, then the season finishes in the Autumn.....then Start
a new season in the spring, then (it's my dream actually), the
season could start in late winter/early spring in the new year
and We could have summer rugby from then on ?

I think that this is the type of thinking that would get us out
of the whole predicament - you could have a "half season", where
teams play each other only once home or away - but I wonder if
it would be resisted because of broadcasting contracts and the
like. It would also have an impact on club finances.

I often thought that this would be a good way to sort out the
mess in the other leagues.
Basically, look at the table after the first half of the season
was played as each team has played the same number of games and
faced each other either home or away.
There would be some issues I think. In National 1, one team had
to postpone a game. So, this would need to be addressed. But,
I think that all leagues managed to complete 1/2 their seasosns.

I read somewhere that a closed door solution might work for
football where the vast majority of income comes from TV.
However, it may be less appropriate for rugby where clubs rely
on selling tickets, food and drink, and this would be lost if
the game were solely on TV.

And, of course, if the players are going to be playing (and
presumably training - how would that work while social
distancing is in place?) then they'd be perfectly within their
rights to demand the missing 25% of their salary be reinstated.
This is going to be a mess. Just call off the season - at least
relegation has already been decided, Prem Rugby are lucky in
that regard.

Much as it pains me (for so many reasons) to admit it, I believe
abandoning the season is the only way forward.
Regardless of what happens to the season, Sarries must go down.

They took the option of relegation irrespective of on-field
results so it should definitely happen.
However the idea of there being no relegation this year and next
season starting with them to be automatically relegated at the
end of that is an idea I could easily support! (With no points
at stake in any of their games next season).

Well Wasps are in dire straits financially with dividends on
their bond due in May so unless they find a solution we may be
down to 11 teams.
