Surely they're unlikely to increase the sentence if he appeals,
so he might as well.

I believe the defence made that point. The issue I guess is that
they were always going to charge him and find him guilty and the
only offence he could be charged under has an entry point of 12
weeks. Not sure what they could reduce it to, as it would've
been 9 if he hadn't been a naughty boy in the past.

He may as well appeal-season over for him anyhow so why not try?
