Exeter Chiefs' Ollie Devoto has been banned for four weeks for a
       dangerous tackle.
An independent disciplinary panel found Devoto guilty of a high
tackle on Harlequins' Marcus Smith on Saturday.
"There was a high degree of danger to the Harlequins player,"
       panel chair Philip Evans said.
"There were insufficient mitigating factors to reduce the red
       card to yellow."
The panel did, however, find that there was "other mitigation"
to reduce the suspension from six weeks to four.

Given that this is significantly at odds with what was decided
on the field, did Christophe Ridley have his own doubts
immediately after and was still playing the incident/decision
through his mind causing him to momentarily lose concentration
and forget to play advantage at the critical moment. Pure
speculation but it wouldn't be an unnatural reaction
particularly for someone who's relatively young and
       inexperienced.

At the time I felt that he was very aware that there was less
than 10 minutes left and looking for reasons to downgrade it to
a yellow, thinking (wrongly) that it wouldn’t impact the game.

I remember on RefLink listening to a conversation with the TMO
and there was a discussion about low danger v high danger.
Perhaps only my interpretation, but I felt that the ref wasn't
sufficiently confident to decide high danger and give a red card

I know he’d already made the yellow decision but the TMO then
said ‘there’s quite a difference in theirs heights’. It doesn’t
matter if one man is shorter than the tackler, the
responsibility is on the tackler to get low.
The other point is every time I’ve watched it including at the
stadium I thought it was a swinging arm to the head rather than
       a tackle anyway.
