Hurmph! T20 isn't real cricket, let alone the 100 nonsense!

T20 is a poor imitation of baseball it has none of the
subtleties and skill that characterises real cricket. 🙄
I'd be interested to see what Amazon could do, ITV's coverage is
now better than the BBC's. Sky would mean having to put up with
Barnes more 😱.
The talk on the egg chasers podcast was that the RFU/ 6N are
trying to bundle up packages of games, autumn internationals,
6N, summer tours etc and trying to flog the lot in one go. If
that didn't work take out bits till it all sells and try and
make as much money as possible. I don't think from the chat that
it is a done deal that 6N is going from fta TV but it is
possible.

From Brian Moore's podcast:
England vs France in the 6N last month ago had 9.2 million
viewers. For modern TV, that's a huge audience for a non prime
time programme.
England vs New Zealand was on Sky in the autumn. They hadn't
played each other for about 3 years and it was one of the most
anticipated games in world rugby for much of that time. It had
1.5 million viewers.
Pub & club viewing is only a relatively small proportion of
overall watching so doesn't significantly skew the figures.
That difference is, in a nutshell, is why the 6N going behind a
paywall is ridiculous idea from the point of view of the long
term health of the sport.

Rugby is now owned by CVC. They will want to make money and then
get out and invest elsewhere. I cannot see them having any
issues in moving it to any pay per view, it will depend on who
gives them the most money so they get the most return.
From an article on CVC and F1...
CVC owned F1 between 2006 and 2017, when it was taken over by
Liberty Media. The then deputy team principal of Force India,
Bob Fernley, accused CVC during that time of “raping the sport”.
In 2016 he summed up everything abut the firm’s relationship
with F1 in a single sentence. “All their actions have been taken
to extract as much money from the sport as possible and put as
little in as possible,” he said.

CVC don't *own* rugby. They're got a minority share in PRL and
the Pro14 competitions and 1/7th of the 6 Nations. As for the
idea that BBC and ITV not "being allowed" to do a joint bid, I
would imagine that they would be able to challenge that in court
as being noncompetitive behaviour.

if Mr Graves and his buddies were interested in Championship
cricket they wouldn't schedule so much of it for the spring and
autumn when the weather is nowhere near as good for watching it
as in the summer so it's hardly surprising attendances aren't
better.
It is also worth mentioning that counties have thousands of
members (ST holders) and if cricket announced attendances in the
same way as rugby (ie including absent ST holders) the crowds
would look very much better.
Pity you didn't ask him why he doesn't distribute more of the
money the ECB make from the counties back to the counties.
November can't come soon enough even if the new man is a former
chief executive of the FA who aren't exactly known for their
sound leadership.

Rocker - you might not think T20 is cricket - plenty more would
disagree. I prefer test cricket, then ODIs and lastly T20 - but
many of my cricket friends love the format.
MM: I didn’t say I agreed with CG; it would be very interesting
to see County Cricket STH uptake - the Oval is often quiet for 4
day games. I understand your point, and agree with some of it,
but I’m pretty sure this has been done with the agreement of the
counties not despite them, but I also know that same counties
aren’t as enamoured with the prospect. You can’t please all the
people all the time.

It was done by bribing, browbeating and bamboozling the counties
according to Matthew Engel former editor of the Wisden
Cricketers' Almanack

and he is far from a lone voice in the game. Ask supporters of
any of the eighteen counties what they make of it and you will
find very few in favour. Probably about the same number of rugby
supporters who think putting the Six Nations behind a paywall is
a good idea!
But when you refuse to fairly distribute the money you make from
the counties and then bribe them to accept it what choice do
they have?
