This imbalance in the team will have an effect, so it is fairly
idiotic. The selections he's made you would akin to some
mid-game injury crisis off the bench to balance things, not days
In advance of an important test.
Simmonds was apparently too light to be an 8, yet hes picked
Curry who weighs less. Curry wasn't bad against Scotland, but I
fear CJ Stander is going to really exploit Curry on Sunday.
The JJ selection I cannot work out at all considering the other
options in the squad, and Lawes is not a 6.
I fear a high penalty count for Sunday and with so many out of
position players in key areas across the field I imagine their
inexperience will be exploited. I'd love to be wrong and sit
here Sunday evening on the back of a resounding win, but
realistically I'll be surprised if I am

I don't think this selection makes sense either, at all and is
the closest I'd say to being idiotic. But I don't think he's an
idiot, just stubborn and contrary. I'd agree with your view of a
mid game injury crisis - it's almost as if he wants to test that
from the off. It's said England are slow to adapt (probably
true) but they'll have to adapt from the off here.
I'm not sure what point he's trying to prove with the 8s or what
he hopes to get out of it. Joseph I worry less about, though I'd
rather have one of the actual wingers playing there of course.
The Lawes selection is just annoying. He's been hugely
ineffective every time he's played there and wastes the place of
someone who'd be better in the job. I do hope there's some grand
plan but I'm really not sure. I appreciate there needs to be
some changes post World Cup and some movements of players but I
don't really see this as solving any of the most obvious ones.

I think he's just trying some very random experiments post World
Cup, in the hope that something works out. Maybe there's an
influence on what he sees in training. I can see some rationale
in playing Lawes on the flank. Joseph on the wing sounds odd,
but it may turn out to be a good move.
The biggest shock is the continuing non-selection of Dombrandt.

Bizzare selections? Eddie is either a genius or the polar
opposite depending if it comes off or not. Apparently the last
time JJ started a match on the wing was 2013 when he was still
       playing for Not Not's!!
The Bench is a mess too.
       I do wonder....

I think we can expect the Irish to kick a lot of high balls to
       Daly and Joseph. :(

I tend to agree that he’s lost the plot a little. Experiments
for the sake of it, and generally speaking his experiments
       haven’t worked. Itoje/Lawes at 6 never works. Curry at 8 doesn’t
work. Daly at fullback hasn’t worked.
The thing that annoys me about it is we don’t need to do these
experiments. If we had a smaller player pool like Wales or
Scotland then you might need to shoehorn your best players in.
But in England we are blessed with a huge player pool which is
currently looking richer than ever before. We have great, in
form options who are being overlooked and it makes no sense.
We may get the win on Sunday. Jones may have won 2 6 nations
titles and taken us to a World Cup final. That doesn’t mean any
of his decisions have been right, or justified. What he has
achieved over the last 4 years is, in my opinion, the minimum
expectation. The periods in between where we were pretty awful
are well below expectation. Overall I would say Jones has been a
disappointment in every regard - results, style of play and
media relations. Time to bring in someone new. And someone
       English!

I think Jones realises that a team is very unlikely to be on top
of their game for a full four year cycle and that what matters
is being in the ascendancy for the 18 months leading into a
       World Cup.
I think he’s almost deliberately scuppering England at the
moment, not because he wants to lose, of course he doesn’t, but
because he wants to have something to build on.

If this is true then that’s even worse than incompetence and he
should be sacked instantly. I hope it isn’t.

Feels a bit like that to me too. He seems better at fixing
       things than maintaining success.

Whilst I understand the logic in some ways, the players hes
       picked still don't make sense.
If he started Thorley, Furbank, Earl, Dombrandt..people would
see that as seeing who steps up to the plate.
If hes working for the next world cup, what is Lawes at 6 ever
going to bring? Will JJ be our wing then? I doubt it. Utterly
       baffling
