It may help Richmond next year.
Richmond lost funding when they got relegated. (A guy in the bar
told me it was half a million.) If they do get promoted from
Nat 1 at the end of this season and keep their current crop of
players, then they will be financially better off next season.
(I think????)

But still £250,000 down on the season before last. This has also
had an impact on the women’s team who struggle to compete with
the better funded teams attached to Premiership clubs. It’s a
shame that the last team to win the final of the women’s rugby
competition before the Tyrells Premiership are now possibly not
able to afford to be in it next year. Fingers crossed for them.

I must confess, I don't understand the funding around the
women's game. I know that some clubs are fully pro (Sarries??)
whereas, I assume that others are 100% amateur (Richmond ??). I
also don't know whether they get any central funding, etc.
E.g. who pays for the coaches, etc? Are they amateur. Does the
Tyrells sponsorship pay for them? etc, etc.

None of the womens clubs are pro. Some offer match fees (Sarries
and Worcs I think). The only pro players are the
internationals. Quins help out the players in terms of study,
work and accomodation expenses. The "professional" set up is
also cited as a reason payers join (in terms of training etc).
I think Richmond women are struggling because the club cannot
afford to run them in the way they would like (in terms of set
up etc). This is mainly due to loss of revenue. The players at
Quins seem open to many different paths that can help outside of
rugby.

Spot on honkytonk, the Quins women have access to exactly the
same facilities and medical staff as the men. Quins are pretty
much made up of ex Richmond players who moved when the new
women’s league was formed. Look at Richmonds facilities and
coaches then Quins and you see the big difference extra money
makes. ( absolutely no disrespect to the coaching team at
Richmond who do a fine job with what they have). Funding cuts
have a knock on effect throughout the clubs not just the first
teams.

I thought that Quins women were a rebranding of Aylesford Bulls
rather than ex Richmond players.

They were but around fifteen of them have left Richmond to join
Quins.
