Reduction in Championship funding and possible impact on
       Saracens

If the Championship teams can / do impose a £2.5 m salary cap as
suggested in the Telegraph it would have a huge impact on
Saracens. There is no way they can keep all their star players
if that is the case. As most teams have done the majority of
their recruitment for next year already it would leave a lot of
       players in very difficult positions.

There was an interesting comment in the Rugby Pod this week
about other clubs not wanting to take Sarries players on loan
for the season - they would prefer to sign them permanently
rather than end up losing them back to Sarries at the end of the
       season.
Another question is what would happen if the team that won the
Championship this season did not meet the minimum standards for
the Premiership - who would come up and replace Sarries in the
Prem? It might be a moot point given that Newcastle are 12
points clear, but could still arise.

A big question will be whether this split would mean that the
teams would be playing in a competition that is not sanctioned
by the RFU. If that were the case, then surely any player
playing in a breakaway competition would not be eligible to play
for the England team (They had a similar issue with a proposed
new unsanctioned competition in the USA a few years back). That
would scupper any saracens player in the England setup wanting
to stay. Plus it would also impact sarries attempt to win
promotion to the Premiership, teams from National 1 wanting to
be promoted to the Championship, etc.

This is like some kind of water torture. Every week seems to
bring another headline that damns Saracens even further for
their misdemeanours. I can't believe that Wray had any idea of
the cumulative impact on the club, but it seems he has managed
to pretty much destroy everything he was trying to build, and
not just destroy it now, but for the foreseeable future. Got to
feel for the Sarries faithful, but no sympathy at all for the
bloke who has caused this much damage.

I am sure Wray could find some means to get round the salary
cap. Mind you, he said he did not know how much he was paying
       his players anyway...

Well, if it lasts 5 years that would seem equitable.

Yes, 5 years would be about right.
Good old Nige didn't even keep a note of what he paid pa and the
dealer he did with them according to Brendan Venter (although
I'm sure his accountants must have)

The Championship clubs should band together and refuse to play
Sarries. They’ve been given Premiership’s mess to clear up,
little prospect of promotion next season, no incentive to invest
       – what’s the point of playing them?
And the worst thing is the halving of their budgets by
       hypocrites at the RFU.

A little over a year ago Wray was telling the media there should
be ring-fencing but he's gone strangely quiet about that now.

Poor guy. The RFU should at least grant him that one.
