O/T England missed a trick during the Calcutta Cup game

An interesting tweet from ITV Rugby this morning has highlighted
how players may not know the laws well enough to take advantage
of the more unusual situations.
The scenario was that Farrell missed a penalty, and Scotland
dotted down to go for the 22 Drop out. Drop out was a long one,
and Ford allowed the ball to roll down to England's in-goal area
where he dotted the ball to set up a replying 22 Drop out.
The Q is, what did England miss? (I have the answer, but I'd be
interested to see how many know this law sub-clause).

If a 22-metre drop-out reaches the opponents’ in-goal without
touching any player and an opponent grounds the ball without
delay or it goes into touch-in-goal or on or over the dead-ball
line, the non-kicking team has the option of having the kick
retaken or a scrum.

Exactly. While we can't have a team full of experts, it would be
helpful if at least one player knew the laws well enough to take
advantage of situations like this.

I didn't know that.
No excuse for players not knowing the laws but shouldn't the ref
have asked them what option they wanted? Makes me wonder if he
knew!

I wondered about this at the time and thought the kick should be
retaken but I wasn't sure. Shouldn't the ref have known and
given the option to us?
Wasn't this a tactic from kick off back in the Rob Andrew days,
kick off into the in goal area and then get the ball kicked back
to you from a 22 dropout. Then the law was changed to stop it.

The key line is "without delay". George Ford picks the ball up
before dotting it back down which, whether we agree or not, is a
delay, so Pascal Gaüzčre was right to just award the 22 drop out

The42 contacted World Rugby, who confirmed that this wasn't a
delay -

Apparently World Rugby's view was that:
