O/T Things looking worse for saracens financially

Looks like they could lose their main sponsor now...

I know some had raised this possibility before, but this is the
first time that it's been seriously mooted by a newpaper. I know
the Daily Wail is generally a pile of you know what, but at
least in terms of breaking Rugby stories, they tend to be
well-connected & know what they're saying when they stick to
straight rugby news reports.

As matters have got worse and worse I think this was inevitable.
It will also be very difficult for Sarries to find a substantial
sponsor to replace Allianz.

Assuming he continues to stand behind the club. I would be very
surprised if Allianz didn't walk. However, while I'd like to
see Wray out, I don't want to see the demise of Sarries - can't
see that being good for rugby as a whole.

The Cheats dropping to the lower London/Hertfordshire leagues
would be fine. The rugby club could continue and rebuild its
reputation.
If not that then oblivion is fine with me.

I wouldn't want to see the end of Saracens, but they're living
in a financial cloud cuckoo land. There is no way a stadium that
only accomodates 10,000 people is going to make a team
financially viable. Then to be spending all that money on
players, all that extra money on unapproved reward schemes.
They've been averaging clouds of less than 8,000 while paying
out top whack. That's simply not sustainable without Nigel
Wray's financial support. I would hope he's going to see them
through the championship season, bring them back and then find a
buyer but between fines, trying to pay a premiership team in a
championship year and other associated costs - this is going to
be very expensive.

I could see Saracens going the way of Richmond and imploding.
Why would a sponsor like Allianz want anything to do with a
financially disreputable club? I agree on the points re Wray
keeping them afloat with no apparent plan to ever be
sustainable.

The Amateurs are in Herts/Middx 1 (level 9). London Welsh
avoided dropping all the way to the bottom of the leagues by
essentially becoming the amateur team.

I actually think that if they were to go into financial
difficulty and drop down leagues, then that would probably be
the best for them long term.
They would rapidly go up through the divisions and be back in
National 1 in 5 years or so.
By that time, they would probably have lost contact with Wray
and his family and becoming an amateur club again would mean
that they could embrace their motto - "work-rate, honesty,
discipline, humility".
By the time they got back, they would probably be seen as a
respectable club again.
For the die hard supporters, it would be a hell of a ride with
many ups and downs along the way.

If they were to drop more than one league, the players they
currently have would almost certainly leave before they made it
back up to the Premiership.There's no way any premiership-level
professional player who had ambitions of representing their
country or winning silverware sticking around for more than one
season in the Championship. Their careers are short enough
already. Plus it would do their skills no good to be playing
against the amateurs in National 1 or lower.
The only way I can see them coming back up quickly if they were
to drop don a number of leagues would be if a backer (let's call
him Wrigel Nay) were to basically bankroll the club to the point
of effectively buying the way up the league by luring players
down from the league one level above to play for them, pulling
the club up a level, then repeating that until they get up into
the Championship.
That is all assuming that they were to drop down more than one
level.
