I thought he was considerably better than Morris at the weekend.

centre on the bench unless they already have a "utility" back
starting. In your normal "5-3 split" bench, the 3 backs will
have to cover a potential 7 positions. It's the norm to have a
specialist SH and a specialist FH on the bench to cover injury
in those key positions. That leaves 1 back to cover IC, OC, W
and FB. Common practice is to have your straight centres on the
pitch to start with, then if/when you make a chance in the back
line, you will see the back on the bench who can play a number
of positions to slot in and the rest of the backline shuffle
       around to match.

fill their spot from who's still on the pitch...

Yes, I completely agree and accept that. Was just saying that if
Saili is not first choice then he really doesn't have any
involvement at all, so we're presumably paying a lot for someone
who is regularly injured and when fit doesn't feature that much

Ross missed as many tackles and dropped the ball 4 times while
making fewer metres, beating fewer defenders, and giving away
       two stupid penalties.

If Morris hadn't run away from attackers or been in completely
the wrong position a fair bit of the time he might have been
forced to make a few more tackles.

If your fullback is making lots of tackles someone else has
       messed up. Usually Ross.

And the pass straight into touch in the first two minutes. I
think he needs time to grow into games sometimes.
