I suspect that at the time the Marchant deal was agreed (agreed,
not announced) we had Taps, Sailli, Lasike, Lang, Campagnaro and
Northmore fit. No one could have predicted what would happen.
It was that or potentially lose him.

Blues won 29-28.
No news yet on Marchant played.

I have a spy in the Blues camp - I'll see what feedback I can
get.

It's only preseason but what limited comments I have found are
positive about him.

Just as an aside, I read on the Sarries board that that we
likely sent Marchant off to Super Rugby in an attempt to exploit
some kind of salary cap related loan loophole. It did make me
laugh. Unfortunately the comments have since been removed.

To be fair, that comment was made on here too...

Really clutching at straws, with salary cap regulations I would
have thought the new contract would kick in end of this
regulation period.

More to the point, if you’re trying to gain an unfair advantage
against your rivals by exploiting loopholes in rules it’s
probably a good idea not to lose one of your star players for a
season (or the best part of). How are we supposed to be
exploiting this? If we loan out a star, we can bring in an extra
2/3 squad guys to hold tackle bags for the season? I can’t see
the rationale.

Isn’t that what Bath and Gloucester have also been accused of,
I.e. loaning our players to minimise the cap?

Wouldn't that depend on if Quins are paying or if Blues are
paying the salary? If Quins are doing so on this regulation
period contract (if there is such a thing) and are under then I
would argue there is no issue.
