Marchant

Listening to DC on his pod and it would appear Quins had little
choice in Marchant going to super rugby. It was an ambition and
also suggested by EJ to enhance his England prospects. Therefore
it probably left Quins in a position to assist or lose him.

But surely better than losing him forever....plus what great
timing to be without our best centre when relegation isn't an
issue.
DC did sound a bit bitter which I thought was odd given Joe will
be back for the start of next season.

I am sure Joe will return an even better player.

I think its a great investment for the future for him, Quins and
England. Just know there were some questions why.
Anyhow he’s starting for the Blues v Canes in final pre season
game.

Apparently EJ didn’t suggest he goes (didn’t say not to either)
but has said he needs to learn as much as possible whilst he’s
there.
JM is in regular contact with Guzzy and has settled well
apparently. He has been tasked to learn as much as possible and
to bring it back to the squad to share. I think this is
excellent as will not only improve him as a player but will push
him to be a leader of the group too as well as hopefully
improving the rest of the squad.

It's not great timing, with 4 or 5 other centres injured ! DC's
'bitterness' may be due to still having ambitions to compete for
a Top 6 place rather than avoiding relegation - which was still
a possibility when Marchant's contract was being negotiated.

It's still a possibility...

I didn't think DC sounded bitter - it was more in a jokey way.

He definitely sounded frustrated to me. "Great for him... not so
great for Quins" is fairly unequivocal.
