Did the players not know, or think, that there was something
wrong with Saracens? Did they not look at the team and wonder
how they keep within the cap - especially when they get loads of
cash for joining?

Yeah i find it hard to believe that the players who had all
these dealings pushing their salary up were looking around the
changing room thinking must of been a bespoke deal only for me
and everyone else is here just to win medals on not much cash.

It's a substantial mess and one that Wray and friends are
responsible for. Regardless of the rights and wrongs of the
situation - I'd expect the 'special circumstances' rule to be
employed for those that end up in France or elsewhere - at least
for a season while being encouraged to find themselves a new
English club. The Abendanon and Armitage situations are
different.
Whether or not that's morally right or not is another thing. I'm
not sure how much the players, knew or understood of what was
going on. Eminently possible they'd been told that all was legit
but also possible they knew at least some of what was going on.
We don't really know either way.

If you believe Venter on the BBC pod, which I would struggle
with, Sarries lost Ashton and Strettle to France as they
couldn't afford them. Their wage demands meant they went
elsewhere and so couldn't play for England. If Sarries players
would rather play abroad than take reduced salaries to stay at
Sarries, they are choosing to go abroad and risk not being
eligible for England.
I agree that these are exceptional circumstances and I have no
doubt that the RFU will come to some arrangement, but I'm not
convinced they should really. As others have said above, I
struggle to believe that the players had no idea.
I do feel sorry or the likes of Earl, Singleton, Malins,
Lozowski, etc, who are not established internals and who
probably would see their hopes of regular England caps being
dashed by a year in the Championship. I'm sure that the regular
internationals would still get picked even if they were in the
Championship. Jones knows what they can do and would probably
get more access to them. It might hurt their Lions chances, but
a year out of the Premiership is not going to stop Farrell,
Itoje, Vunipola, etc getting picked for England in my opinion.
It would stop the young hopefuls though I reckon.

I'd also argue that we only really need Itoje, Farrell and
George.
Kruis was apparently off anyway, and we have quite a few locks.
Mako still can't scrummage. Marler is the better scrummager and
a great defender, Genge is great in the loose, other players can
cover the ball playing skills Mako brings.
Billy has been a bit off par recently and is injured anyway,
and if Eddie wanted to pick them we do have other ball carrying
8s.
Spencer for some reason doesn't seem to be in contention, though
I reckon he should be one of the players England try to come to
an arrangement with.

If the players have existing contracts, then the only option for
them to stay at Sarries would be to renegotiate at a lower
salary. Who on earth would do that? If their contracts are up
for renewal, then Sarries renegotiation will see them
constrained by the salary cap (or not, if it doesn't apply in
the Championship?). That may lead to a conversation where
players have to be released as there's just no cap left. O
players finding their offers are greatly reduced. Either way, I
think we'll see players leaving.

Do we know for sure that Joe is sticking at international rugby?
Or did he return just for the RWC? I know he's in the training
squad, but...

The salary cap doesn't apply to the Championship but according
to another thread on here, teams need to abide by it for 2
seasons prior to promotion as it stands...

I thought I'd read that somewhere on here. Does this mean that
maybe... maybe... Sarries could be denied promotion?
