One rule for all...apart from Saracens

It appears the RFU are going to let Saracens players play abroad
and still be picked for England. It looks like Wray is going to
end keeping our players in England as well as being a serial
cheat. If Saracens players can go abroad and still play for
England then it will mean anyone can do the same.

The players should not be penalised by Sarries mistakes. At
least not those who have no co-investments!

The Telegraph are reporting that the RFU are also considering a
Saracens misconduct investigation with possible disciplinary
action to follow.

Not really. They made their own choice. This is a rather
different situation.

Nonsense. Nothing is making them go abroad.
Sod 'em.

That’s a bit of a silly attitude to take. Those players are in a
position where their current employer may not be able to extend
or even fulfil their existing contracts, and there’s limited
capacity for other Premiership clubs to take them because of
when this is happening in the season (most clubs are some way
through re-signings, and will already be in negotiations with
their major new signings). In order to find new jobs, they may
have to look abroad.
As a result, a up to 30% of the RWC squad could find themselves
playing abroad next year. If you were the RFU, would you just
shrug and let them go, or invoke the exceptional circumstances
clause?
These *are* exceptional circumstances. A mass, enforced exodus
of current England players because of the misbehaviour of their
club is an exceptional event. It’s never happened before, it’s
unlikely ever to happen again.
The players in question may share some culpability - at least
some of them will have had the deals that cause the problem -
but they won’t have had the full picture of how extensive the
cheating was, and mostly what they’re guilty of is taking the
best deal on offer without asking questions that might have
jeopardised the offer they were made. If I were in the RFU’s
shoes, I would probably offer them dispensation for a single,
preferably short term, overseas deal, provided it had the
availability clauses in the contract, but encourage them to find
an English club as soon as possible.
The alternative is to glut the Six Nations and AI squad for 2
years. While that might be good for depth in the long term, it’s
hugely disruptive and stokes resentment.

Completely agree. Can not blame players. Imagine you are Daly or
Singleton. Sold a dream, join the club and the rug is pulled
from under you before you have even played or trained with the
team!

The players have benefited from higher salaries and they would
continue to do so when playing abroad. That isn't fair to other
players.

Fine. If any club shows that they were turned down by a Sarries
player in favour of a job abroad they can't play. If they have
no offers they can.
