because I think the guys in charge at Saracens are genuinely
awful, or because of the arrogance of some of their fans, but
because this is the long awaited comeuppance for the team that
tried to hold English rugby to ransom. It seemed for a long time
that they'd get away with it, that we'd be on the slow burn to a
football-style dominance of the sport by a couple of teams with
more money than anyone else. Instead we have a chance to excise
the cancer and get some sanity back into proceedings.

even those who became bitter and spiteful, because we all know
what it's like when your club is under attack. Eventually the
majority of them will realise who's to blame here, and Sainted
Nigel might find he's not quite as popular as he hoped.

Thanks Jammy - saved me some typing. Covered the points I
planned to make better than I would!

Why 8 points?
A few other thoughts come to me - yes, it does happen!
1) I wonder if other clubs will be so reticent to help Sarries
that they will either refuse to take on any players, or will
squeeze a ludicrously poor deal for Sarries. That would assume
other clubs could find space under the cap, and Sarries
offsetting any contract shortfall.
2) I wonder if the recent announcement by the new head regulator
that relegation would be an option for further breaches, was
made with any knowledge that they were already guilty...

The sad thing for me in the BBC article is the statement from
Griffiths:
"It is clearly in the interests of the league and English rugby
that this matter is dealt with as soon as possible, and we are
prepared to do whatever is reasonably required to draw that
line."
Reasonably required? OK, I get that he wants to soften the blow
as much as possibly, but "reasonably required"? The net is that,
if we are to take everything we've seen and read at face value,
then we are already way beyond what is "reasonably required".
On a separate note, I do feel for those original Fezheads that
have supported Sarries through the dark times, and see them go
from barely filling a footie stadium to the success they have
had in the last few seasons. However, from this side of the
fence, it has been clear for many years that something was not
right in the ability of Sarries to vacuum up all the top talent
available without doing something unspeakable to the salary cap,
and despite the fine/deduction, nothing much has changed in the
squad this season, so they must have known that something like
this would be inevitable. If the same had been happening at
Quins, I am pretty sure that we as fans would have been asking
how we could afford such a stellar lineup.
This is going to damage quite a few careers - as pointed out
above, who is going to be able to afford to take on these
players within the cap, and if a way is found to take them on
within the Prem, how many up and coming players might be dropped
to make way?

The Telegraph and Mail are reporting that Saracens have called
an emergency players' meeting for this morning.
The Mail's saying: "Saracens have called their entire squad to a
crisis meeting this morning where they are expected to be told
that the club will be relegated at the end of the season.
The Telegraph is a bit more cautious: "Saracens call crisis
meeting for this morning as threat of Premiership relegation
intensifies over salary cap compliance"

month, in order to be compliant this season. That's like losing

I would guess only Wray and possibly other board members would
know anything for sure.

True but then again we all thought Saracens were cheating the
salary cap didn't we? And all we could do was think. But we
thought correctly.
Any player with a basic grasp of maths could look at his salary
and work out what was happening even if he didn't have the
actual proof to hand.
