O/T Saracens & Stephen Jones

Whilst reading through The Sunday Times rugby reports my eyes
fell upon the Osprey v Saracens game. The correspondent was
Stephen Jones and his final paragraph jumped from the page.
In context: Premier Rugby has appointed a new judge to preside
over any future rugby regulation disputes (such as salary cap
contraventions). Darren Childs (Chief Exec Premiership Rugby)
has been vocal in asking the new judge to be tougher in the
application of punishments, particularly related to the salary
cap.
Stephen Jones obviously perceives this as a dig at Saracens and
at the end of his match review he writes:
"[I]Saracens are part of Premier Rugby; they have helped put
Childs and others where they are today. They have been tried
and fined and robbed of points - all out of any proportion to
their offence" [/i]
It's an extraordinary position to adopt and seems totally at
odds with the views and opinions held by the majority of the
rugby press and paying public. Is Jones simply throwing petrol
onto a fire for effect or does he have form in this direction?

Sarries got off lightly, talk now of "tougher" sanctions. Too
little too late. I hope they go down. Everything they have
done is tainted.

Jones loves the sound of his own voice, to him Saracens are the
saviours of rugby and should get a free ride. I like how says
that they have been robbed of points but forgets they have
robbed other clubs of match points and trophies by cheating.

When I read the subject I assumed the thread was about them
announcing their engagement.

The Sunday Times Sports Editor has closed down the
correspondence on Saracens cheating. They have 4 letters printed
this week for and against Nigel Etc but should the press close
down something their 2 main rugby correspondents- Stephen Jones
and Owen Slot cannot agree on?

His podcast is full of him gushing about Sarries. He's
hopelessly out of touch!

Jones’ constant defence of Saracens in an embarrassment. Listen
to the Ruck podcast just before Christmas to hear him at his
worst.
