We were a clear second best. How much of that was down to the
ref is academic. For me, one of the biggest gripes in general is
that poor refs ruin the game that I love to watch. I don't like
us losing, but it's much easier to stomach when it's a game
that's been reffed well.

To be clear, I'm not saying we lost because of the ref. We were
abject.
But, as a largely pro-ref person, I found myself constantly
shouting at Tempest (along with all around me) at crooked
throws, forward passes, high tackles, offsides, clear outs from
the side etc. all being cslled wrong. In particular, the way he
dealt with the Yarde/Chisholm/Symons spat summed it up
perfectly.
I've played in teams this has happened to and it is
demoralising. You almost feel like giving up. And it often ends
in bad tempered reactions (Marler). Incidentally, the
Twittersphere agreed and it was most certainly not only Quins
fans.
Again, we were poor, but nowhere near as poor as Tempest.

This is exactly what I see when refs aren’t on your side at all.
I’ve heard it from coaches, including COS. They say it ruins any
forward momentum and leads to frustration. Surely if the ref is
influencing the game that much he IS costing you the game. I
don’t know what the offside penalty count was but I bet we gave
away more than they did. Ironically.

Watching on BT didn’t hear the TMO in his ear often, if at all,
especially about the offside line which maybe what they are told
I.e. don’t chip in BUT I do know when I have watched previous
games there was a lot of assistance coming in, very frustrating
but c’est La vie as in general we were pretty poor.

The ref had a poor game , but Quins were poorer .
Sale adjusted and we didn't .
We need to learn to work with the referee and I find it amazing
that experienced Internationals still don't get it .
Gustard said at the Quinssa evening that Quins had one of the
worst reputations in the Prem for irritating referees and he was
trying to fix that. Well apart from the fact that hes one of the
first to criticise he needs to tell Care Marler and Sinckler
and others to stop continually chipping in .
As for Marler , I love his comedy persona OFF the pitch , but he
needs to switch on when he crosses the whitewash , seems like he
treats it like a Sussex 1 encounter , jolly bants and winding up
, but the comedy act needs to stop , running round after his YC
pretending he didn't know which DuPreez brother he had slapped
was just embarrassing .
One of the worst performances since a last day thumping by
Chiefs a couple of seasons back .
Full credit to Sale for taking advantage , the score didn't
flatter them , we had a proper pasting .
( On the upside it was funny to see Yarde go for his maiden
flight courtesy of Matt S )

Tempest was dreadful last night but even if he had been
absolutely perfect in every decision we would still have been
hammered.
What annoyed me most (even more than him and his supposed
assistants totally ignoring the offside law for twenty and then
once Sale were well ahead suddenly applying it) was the yellow
card shown to Symons for chucking Yarde out of the way after his
cowardly attack on Robshaw. I know you shouldn't retaliate but
if it hadn't happened there was absolutely zero chance of the
coward Yarde's actions being spotted.

What did Yarde do to Robshaw?
I was fortunate that the pub I went to watch the game in last
night has lost its BT showing rights, so I didn't see the game -
glad really!

Sale scored a driving maul try , Robshaw was on the pile face
down and Yarde came in ( well after the try had been given) and
dropped an elbow into his back , cheap shot really but Baby
Chis spotted it and drove into Yarde to clear him off the ruck
and when he stood up in front of Matt Symons , Symons just
grabbed him and lobbed him sideways .

Don't blame the ref.
Every team goes to great lengths to analyse the performance and
individual characteristics of all premiership refs. They come
across the refs regularly throughout the season and should know
how to play them.
Otherwise, it's down to poor preparation by the coaches or
indiscipline by the players (or both).

He was bad, and we did not get the rub of the green in lots of
places, and he made his mind it was a penalty on halfway line
against us early doors and did not want to go back on this.
Firstly said as Chisholm started it, then having watched replay
said it was due to Symons being most serious. If Yarde had not
done hat he had done nothing would have happened!
Yarde was an unpopular member of the squad, but not sure Sale
move has been great for him as at least he was playing for
Quins!
However our mistakes were the reason we lost by 38 points, not
the ref. I have said this before this squad is better than last
years and the year before, but I think it will take another year
before we are going to compete.
