HARLEQUINS HAVE NAMED THEIR SIDE TO FACE SALE SHARKS ON FRIDAY 3
DECEMBER AT THE AJ BELL STADIUM.
Paul Gustard’s first team of the new decade sees only one change
to the starting XV from Big Game 12, with Gabriel Ibitoye
starting as Cadan Murley moves into the centre in the absence of
injured Italian international Michele Campagnaro, amongst a long
list of injured backs at the Club.
Aaron Morris makes his return from injury as a Game Changer
whilst Semi Kunatani re-joins the matchday 23 and Elia Elia
starts on his 50th appearance for the Club.
Head of Rugby at Harlequins, Paul Gustard said: “We are looking
forward to the challenge against a very strong Sale team on
Friday night. It is a great place to play rugby and test
yourself against a team that are exceptionally hard to break
down and have attacking threats across the field.
“We were of course disappointed with not picking up more league
points against Tigers at Big Game 12, but we dominated the
fixture and over the last five / six weeks have been like the
team we aspire to be. We will need to step up another level for
the game at the AJ Bell and it’s something we are determined and
readying ourselves to do.”

Good to see Morris back, to give us options in the back three.
At least we can shuffle Goneva & Murley into the centres, with
Morris, Ibitoye and Chisholm all available.
What's more surprising is seeing Elia start. He looked to be
struggling in the minutes before he came off the pirtch on
Saturday, and I was worried it looked like it could be something
serious.

THE SHARKS MAKE FOUR CHANGES TO THEIR MATCHDAY SQUAD AFTER
DEFEAT TO BATH RUGBY IN ROUND 7, WITH ROSS HARRISON AND JEAN-LUC
DU PREEZ MOVING BACK INTO THE SIDE AHEAD OF FRIDAY NIGHT’S CLASH
WITH HARLEQUINS AT THE AJ BELL STADIUM. (KICK-OFF 7:45PM)
Steve Diamond calls on Sale Sharks stalwarts Ross Harrison and
Will Cliff to replace Coenie Oosthuizen and Faf De Klerk for the
round eight match, after the Springbok Internationals picked up
injuries in the latter stages of last weekend’s defeat to Bath.
De Klerk suffered a knee injury due to an off the ball challenge
at the Rec, whilst Oosthuizen was subject to an ankle strain
during the match. Both players are expected back for the next
round of Gallagher Premiership Rugby
Harrison moves back into the pack along with Jean-Luc du Preez
having both made appearances from the bench in round seven. The
rest of the forwards remain unchanged with Jono Ross leading the
side from blindside flanker.
Will Cliff moves into the 9 shirt and will partner up with
Robert du Preez at fly half tomorrow night. Rohan janse van
Rensburg and Sam James remain in the midfield at 12 and 13
respectively with a back three made up of Chris Ashton and Byron
Mcguigan on the wings with Luke James at Full Back.
McGuigan is set to make his 50th Sale Sharks appearance at the
AJ Bell this weekend.
Ahead of tomorrow nights match, Director of Rugby Steve Diamond
outlined the importance of fixing the errors in the Sharks game
that cos them an away victory at the Rec last weekend.
He said: “It was disappointing to not get the result we wanted
last weekend, but the lads have been working hard all week to
put right the errors from Bath. It will be a great occasion at
the AJ Bell tomorrow night in our first match of 2020 but we
will need to be on our game to get the four points as it is
always a close encounter against Quins.”

Good to see Morris back on the bench and yes also relieve that
Elia is fit enough to start again tomorrow.
Does anyone know why Dombrandt isn't included? Always look for
his name as he can make such a big impact whether he starts or
comes off the bench.

Dombrandt will have been ' rotated out' as he doesn't appear on
the injured list .
Seems a little odd to me though as he only had 20 mins or so in
the last two games .
Semi is good cover .

Very pleased with that team, we are taking the league challenge
seriously. We also have two dead rubbers against Bath and
Clermont before the big one against Sarries. So we can give some
of the wider squad a run out in the European matches.
Hopefully the positive attacking play from Saturday can be built
on and we can get an away win. Last year we were cruising
against them, then got a big nervous and then lost discipline.
We need to keep our heads tomorrow because the Sale team know
how to wind up and intimidate.
Like others, I wonder where Alex Dombrandt is? It is a shame
that he is not jnvolved but I wonder if he will captain the team
in the next two games while Robshaw is rested. In any case,
Lawday is an excellent player and Chisholm is working himself
back to his best. Robshaw remains the pinnacle of quality.
Come on you Quins!

Glad to see Sinckler and Elia are fit. Surprised that there's no
Dombrandt when he's barely played. He must be a bit miffed with
6 nations around the corner.
Do we have any other fits centres other than Northmore and the
loan signing from Falcons? I assume not. Really need some of
those other guys back.
Now Morris is back I wonder if we're still trying to get cover
in for Brown?
Hopefully Marler and Sinckler and the pack in general will be
fired up and looking to prove a point

Agree Semi is a strong bench option. Dombrandt's exclusion does
raise an eyebrow though. He's only started three prem games so
far this season (and scored in two of those) so if not injured
is PG saying the current back three (and Semi) are playing
better or does Dombrandt not fit with the system somehow? Lawday
had a good game at eight against Tigers - let's hope they
justify Dombrandt's exclusion.
Otherwise nice to see a relatively settled selection for a
change aside from the enforced change with Campagnaro.
