In terms of seriousness bloodgate was a one off action to win
one game whereas Saracens action was spread over 2/3 seasons and
bought financial benefit to the club as well as a number of
players.Absolutely no comparison.

They were all sworn to secrecy by Salarycens legal team. He did
however say at an “evening with” event, “I hate Saracens, I
REALLY hate Saracens “ . He muttered about us not knowing the
half of it. Now i know why he said that.

Well I still think we only know half of it! Yes remember COS
saying that Also notice very few Sarries supporters amongst
spectators. Also the total silence when Sarries came on the
pitch and when they left do hope we will achieve this.

It mustn't be forgotten of course that it was the much maligned
(and usually deservedly so) Daily Mail whose journalists
unearthed the cheating to a point at which PRL pressed by other
clubs were forced to take action. You can bet your life that
without their efforts PRL would have been more than happy to
continue turning a blind eye.

I’m glad Rob Baxter has made these comments and shares some of
the anger that so many fans across the country feel. That some
from Sarries and the media continue to be so obtuse about the
whole thing is troubling but not overly surprising.
I see the argument peddled that Sarries have done so much for
the English game and therefore should be looked at
sympathetically as a result. Nonsense, they clearly have a great
set of coaches who do a fine job with the players. That doesn’t
require busting the salary cap by any means. That only the star
players had these shell companies also confirms that player
welfare wasn’t the sole motivation.
Also wholehearted agree with Jammy about the la k of decent
rugby journalism. It’s dire and full of sycophancy. I’d also say
some of the punditry is heading that way too.

Yep. Who was the journo who broke the story? He deserves credit
for sure.
However, there's very few papers who'd not go for being the ones
to break big news - like with Bloodgate - but the drier, less
headline-y stuff is not going to sell papers or get enough
clicks. So you get a bunch of embedded types who just rewrite PR
fluff and don't rock the boat.

Agreed JG. It would be wonderful if the Daily Mail journalist
who broke the story won the Rugby Writer of the Year Award. If
that happens perhaps they could ask Nigel Wray to present it as
he will be less busy in the future.

IIRC it was Chris Foy at the Mail. He's the only reason I will
actually look at the Mail website. His sources are usually very
good & he doesn't appear to have any biases towards teams or
competitions. There's another one who does analysis for the
Telegraph who I also rate very highly. If the pair of them were
on the same paper, they'd have by far the best team of Rugby
print journalists.
