Treatment Table 29 Nov 2019

From the offy:
Mike Brown and Scott Baldwin have picked up injuries that
require surgery in the coming days.
Full back Brown, 34, will undergo surgery this week to address a
knee injury sustained at the end of preseason.
Mike Lancaster, Head of Medical Services at Harlequins said:
“Mike has been the model professional and is fully committed to
a conservative reload and return to play, within hopefully six
to nine months. Unfortunately, after playing the last two games,
the restriction in function would not allow Mike to perform at
his best or indeed allow optimal preparation within the week.
Head of Rugby Paul Gustard added: “Losing Mike is a big loss to
the squad. He has tried hard to train and play over the last few
weeks but unfortunately his situation has worsened, and it would
be damaging to his long-term knee health if he continued to try
and play.
“He is of course disappointed, as ultimately Mike wants to
compete and give his all to the shirt. Under the guidance of our
outstanding medical team led by Mike Lancaster, allied to
Browny’s incredible attitude to improve and his diligence to
rehab, I know he will do everything he can to return to play
faster than anticipated.
“We will look to see how we can use Mike in other capacities to
help the squad.”
Welsh hooker Scott Baldwin, who joined the Club in the summer,
also sustained an injury to his neck in the side’s Heineken
Champions Cup fixture against ASM Clermont Auvergne.
Mike Lancaster confirmed: “Scott will undergo surgery next week
to address his neck injury. He is understandably disappointed to
be missing out on game time, but his professionalism and focus
will no doubt help in expediting his return to play in the new
year.”
Gustard continued: “Scott has settled in really well and is a
popular member of the squad. He was outstanding in pre-season
and demonstrated strong leadership qualities, which will prove
to be an asset to the Club moving forward.
“He had made a promising start to the season and his injury is
further loss to a position where Rob Buchanan is yet to regain
fitness and Max Crumpton is out until the new year.
“We know Scott is determined to attack his rehabilitation the
same way he does a scrum and he will do all that’s required to
return to play faster than anticipated. I know our fans will
wish him the very best in his recovery from his forthcoming
surgery.”

Hmmm so Brown is essentially out for the season and Baldwin's
prognosis doesn't sound great either.
What do we do to our players??

We are racking up the long term injuries in the backs - Brown,
Earle, Tapuai, Marchant. Let's hope Morris can be back soon.

I have a sneaking suspicion that we'll see Lang at FB a fair
bit. Gussy seems to consider him more as a Utility Back given
where we've played him so far this season.

Oh ****
That's terrible news for us and no doubt crushing for MB, as it
effectively ends his hopes of getting back into England (not
that i thought he would) and might be the end of his career.
When's his contract up for renewal? If he's out until 2020-21
then he'll be almost 36 at the end of that season.
Between this, Marchant, all the hookers injured, Marler/Sinks
potentially away for 6N, etc it feels like we are just going to
be bouncing around at the bottom of the Prem with the
humiliation of Sarries finishing above us to come....

Not good news :-(
Browny out for effectively the rest of the season, and Baldwin
doesn't have a return to play time at all?
So we've got one fit hooker in the senior team?
The injury situation is terrible!

I think that is a good shout about Lang. Im pretty sure that
Herron has also played there for Jersey. I wonder if we are on
the look out for a Hooker on loan??
As for injuries, thats rugby. Bath are in the same boat (worse
actually). Were not the first and def not the last. Just need
to get on with it.

Feel bad for Mike as you just know he'll be champing at the bit
to get back playing. Hopefully the rest and rehab will go well
and quickly and maybe we'll se him again this season. I want him
to reach 400 games for Quins!
The flip side is that it will help us to prepare and build to a
post-Brownie era. When he's fit, he plays; now we have to find a
longer term replacement, someone will need to step up and claim
the shirt.
