A safe stop-gap until something else comes along.
Hope it's not Eddie Jones' job.

QQ I agree. I still think COS was the beneficiary of the set up
       left behind by Deano.

Now I think of it he did bring in some stars to Quins like
       Casson

COS completely changed our style of play, leaned heavily on
       academy products, and won trophies.
A lot of the good work Richards did for the club was offset by
       the huge damage Bloodgate did.
I'll never understand the desire of people to refuse to give COS
the credit due for turning Quins around, and the desire to give
Richards the credit for a team that was produced 3 years after
       he got banned.

COS built on the side that Deano started. He gave the players
the freedom to play. And we won the Premiership. Though to be
fair and this is a personal view COS is an excellent elite
sports manager rather than a Director of sport. Although he's
not that bad at being a DOR.

       Bloodgate team
Harlequins: Brown, Strettle, Tiesi, Turner-Hall, Monye; N Evans,
Care; Jones, Botha, Ross, Percival, Robson, Robshaw, Skinner
       (capt), Easter.
Replacements: Malone for N Evans (47), J Evans for Percival
(69), Williams for Malone (69). Not Used: Fuga, Lambert, Guest,
       Gomarsall.
       AP winners
Harlequins: Brown; Williams, Lowe, Turner-Hall, Monye; Evans,
Care; Marler, Gray, Johnston, Kohn, Robson, Fa'asavalu, Robshaw,
       Easter.
Replacements: Buchanan, Lambert, Collier, Vallejos, Guest,
       Dickson, Clegg, Hopper.
Seems a fair turnaround in 3 years. Deano had a fair few players
in or before their prime, and a few past their best years. Sure
cos didn't ring many in, but that was the key to his success -
bringing the academy through and retaining those homegrown
players through a pretty grim period. I've no problem with
criticising him for waht came after, but he did an incredible
job for us for his first 4 years.
