I'd add Cavubati, he really looks up for the challenge. I think
the penalty against Bothma at the end was harsh - we were camped
on their line and quite a few tackles looked illegal, no arms,
offside. We should have had a penalty long before Bothma flew
in.
We were thoroughly oputclassed by (arguably) one of the best
teams in France. They have some truly outstanding players and
they don't seem to have any weaknesses. Kind of like Sarries.
Our younger players will learn a lot from this, and the team as
a whole will feel very embarrassed at the scoreline, and
aggrieved to have come away with nothing.
Great to see Care back. Nice that Lambert still shores up the
scrum. Elia added a lot when he came on. Campgnaro showed a lot
of good work, and Sailli did pretty well I thought.
We won't face many (if any) teams as strong as this, thankfully.
But we need to sort out our weaknesses - I'm concerned at Lang,
and Gabs needs to get back to basics. Our back row today all
looked good. I could go on, but it's not a game I want to dwell
on.

Ok , I'll bite, for the benefit of posters such as Bampotbill
and Quintron....
Firstly, you've seen a great individual try courtesy of
Ibitoye. I'll admit he didn't have a great game, but
technicality can be coached and pace can't.
Secondly, I thought Lawday and Evans looked top class today,
and held their own against Fritz Lee and his back row compadres
admirably. These are blokes who have been in the squad for five
months max, and I refer you all to Ben Darwins work on how long
it takes for a player to settle.
Thirdly, i'd be willing to be right now that Clermont will make
it to the final this year. I'm not sure that any other team in
the comp. would have beaten them tonight, and as La Marseillaise
has been polite enough to tell us, that was the best they have
played all season.
Finally, I think that lots if players had a much better game
than people think. If you go back and watch the full game again,
I'd have a look at what Kerrod does in the loose, what Lambert
did at scrum time and how many carries Sailli made in the first
half. For significant proportions of the game, these players
really weren't that bad. They just came up against some world
class opposition.
I'd wager now that Bath will pose us much less of a problem next
week.
I really encourage some of the people who are really down on
the team to come back to me on these points, because I think a
lot of people are either a) losing perspective or b) actually
want the team to lose because "Project Gustard " is not
delivering quickly enough for their liking.

Can't agree Elia did s lot of good when he came on given our
lineout. The argument that Clermont are a great team and other
teams would have struggled and that we'll be fine against bath
ignores the recent games vs saints band Worcester

I can't agree that you can compare the performance tonight
against the Worcester game in any meaningful way. Consider the
following:
1) Do you think that Lawday has played any better than he did
tonight for us so far this season?
2) Do you think that the weather (And some odd 50/50 reffing
calls ) might have made a difference in that game that means we
lost the game rather than Worcester won it?
For me, these are two completely different competitions, two
completely different teams and two completely different sets of
circumstances. That is sport my friend!

I thought lawday was very good. It doesn't change the fact that
the recent team performances have been poor. A few players
having good individuals games will never be enough

Regardless of how good Clermont are it doesn't make the poor
player performances any more palatable.

I think it is only the players who want to play in the
Champions Cup I quite enjoy the Challenge Cup - sorry!
