what makes you think they haven't??
marchant wanted the chance to try something different, that will
help him develop into a better player. We allowed that and have
got him for 3 more years. Short term loss, long term gain

Eh? Do you have any reason to doubt what the clubs (Quins &
Blues) and the Player himself have said? Why use a phrase with
negative connotations ("open and honest as to how and why this
happened")?
Whilst we won't have Marchant for the second half of the season,
we have sufficient cover for his position, we've signed him to a
new 3 year deal and he's going to get invaluable experience
playing in a competition that's more akin to Champions Cup level
week in - week out before he comes back next season. I view it
as basically a good move overall for the club and the player.

It's incredibly short notice and frankly bizarre for it to be
announced that one of our best players is going to be playing
for someone else from next month, for the rest of the season.
There's plenty of people speculating it's for salary cap
reasons, which would be one of the things I believe we should be
honest about.
This is a genuinely shocking announcement. This sort of thing
does not happen often. The only comparable one is Haskell going
to the Highlanders, and that was part of his phase of playing
for pretty much anyone and Wasps not being able to afford to
keep him.
Have to say that Super Rugby is often some way below Champions
Cup level - fingers crossed they'll be much better this season
but the Blues have been garbage for a while, and there's plenty
of pretty awful matches in terms of standard.
p.s. we don't have sufficient cover - he's our best 13 by a
country mile.

The Blues seem to be making an effort to bring in some quality,
so time will tell.
The salary cap thing, im not sure. I said before that this type
of move would not happen over night, must have taken some
planning and probably been discussed with England coaches. If
it is to do with the cap, if we are not breaking any rules why
should we announce anything. There would be nothing to
announce/be honest about. Just because it does not happen
often, does not mean that there is anything suspicious about it.

It doesn't sit right for me. He is, objectively speaking, one of
the very first names on the team sheet. To give that kind of
player up for the good part of a season is just weird whichever
way you look at it. I also think it's a strange decision on
Joe's part - just when he seems to be breaking into the England
squad, he rules himself out of the Six Nations. Who knows who
else might come through at 13 while he's away...
But hey, I'll take the 3 year deal and recalibrate my hopes for
this season now that it seems we don't really have aspirations
to compete for top 4. This news added to the
rotation-at-all-costs selection policy suggests to me that Gussy
has his eyes on the future rather than what we might be able to
do now. Maybe that's a more honest way of doing business -
commit to the rebuild/transition period by giving all your squad
opportunities. I just worry that we might end up in a relegation
scrap, given how there isn't an obvious wooden spoon team like
there used to be...

There is the possibility that isn't a salary cap issue per se,
but on opportunity to let Marchant go for immersion in NZ in the
New Year AND for him to be replaced on a short term (or longer)
contract by someone that has just finished an international
career and is resting post RWC. Are any of the centres we have
due to renew their contracts this summer? Perhaps, another if,
Quins are waiting for a week or two to announce this alongside
BG12 seat sales. The new CEO will have something positive to say
regarding the future of the club.
Pipe dream, probably, but I am of the glass-half-full
persuasion...

I would guess Sailli and Lasike are OOC at the end of this
season

He is going to have some competition in Auckland. Reki Ioane has
announced he is moving from wing to 13 for the up coming season
