Unfortunately I think this is all about the need to stay under
the salary cap. Saints were sniffing around Dombrandt who having
broken into the 1st team and on the England radar has increased
his salary demands. We needed to clear some space so offload
Marchant for 6 months on loan and offer Dombrandt a new deal. I
think it's a mistake as our backrow options are stronger than
our centres. I'd have hoped in negotiations Quins would have
offered Joe a trip to NZ in 12 months time after another proven
season as our 1st choice 13 and a couple more England caps.

Maybe the Club didn't have an option if they wanted him to sign
a new contract .
He could have insisted on this as part of the deal .

Eh! Injuries aside, off the top of my head, we've got a Sali
(former AB), Taps (Former Wallaby), Lasike (Current USA), Lang
(Fringing Scot) not including Marchant, Morris and the new lad
from Cardiff uni. How strong do you want to be in the Centres?

Lol thanks I knew there was an 'italian' but could'nt remember

And none of them as good or as big a try scoring threat as
Marchant.

Saili has so far not played to his potential. Tapuai's been
solid but was never a world beater. Lasike is a second tier
international, a flawed but sometimes effective blunt object.
Lang is, well... a utility back who isn't first choice in any
position.
It's depth, but it's not strength.

Marchant is probably better than all the England Centre options
except tuilagi, and he's better at most facets of the game than
him. None of our other centres come close.

I do think the club should be open and honest as to how and why
this happened.
