The "Squad" principle is "short term pain - long term gain"!!!
I'm happy to buy into that....
That said - I was deeeply upset at the end yesterday but have
tosay that the conditions were awful and quite frankly a
lottery. As has been the previous two matches.
The real test will be in France netx weekend. COYQ

Let's be clear here, it's primarily his record with Quins we're
arguing about. He took a team that was rocking after Bloodgate
and completely transformed the squad and the style of play, and
- unlike Deano, who saw us humiliated at home by Irish in the
semi-final - actually took us to the title.
People who say it was just him riding on Deano's coattails are
not being honest at all. Deano went in 2009. We won it in 2012.
If Gustard gives us another strong team, a title win, and an
eventual falling away I will absolutely accept that, because
it'd be better than practically any other DOR we've had, and
better than most teams in this league have ever managed.

Things clearly not going to plan but personally not too worried
in principle about the rotation policy as I am hopeful that it
will pay dividends in the long term. Biggest and most worrying
thing for me from yesterdays game was the apparent lack of ideas
and the ability to changes things around. Sorely in need of more
leaders who can step up to the mark when the likes of Robshaw,
Care and Brown are not playing.

We have far too many very average players and not enough of top
quality.Given the improvements at Bris and L Irish the league is
tougher than last year and bottom 6 much more likely than top
6.Gustard’s challenge is much greater this season but let’s give
him the rest of the season before reaching judgement.None the
less it is a depressing start to the season.We need to do a
Sarries and focus on the league at the expense of Europe

Wasnt going to reply to this thread, but as its become popular,
will do so. When I saw how many new players we had signed, is it
15? I immediately thought of other clubs that have done
similarly & I dont think its worked anywhere. The mind springs
back to the London Welsh, London Irish, Worcester, sides that
struggled & were relegated, whereas Quins since Deano have had
that tight knit approach & it has served us well. Now we have so
many new players they're probably still struggling to introduce
each other & that's a concern. OK we might well be able to
rotate but why rotate when it means an inferior team is put out?
Were definately going through a change, lets hope its for the
best. The too many journeymen approach did for us in 2004. So
many changes plus an unsettled coaching staff does not not fill
me with confidence. Compare us to Saints & Chris Boyd. Hope I am
very wrong.

Well, luckily the relegation battle doesn't start after four
games. Unless the rules were changed whilst my head was in the
sand?

The rules have changed Quinky. There are no weak teams or
whipping boys anymore. Bristol, Worcester, Sale, London Irish,
are all seriously competitive. It could easily be a relegation
fight between Leicester, Bath, & ourselves!

Indeed, they say there are no easy games. But we will have much
better days, and I wouldn't write anyone off at this stage of
the season. Think how many seasons Leicester struggled horribly
in the early season, only to make the playoffs time and again.

Saracens notoriously had a squad clean out before they turned
the entire club around. It does happen. However I don't think
we've done anything like that, our main team is still pretty
familiar (Marler, Sinckler, Symons, Robshaw or Chisholm or
Clifford, Care, Smith, Marchant, Brown...). Does anyone really
think we lost anyone we should have kept?
