Yes, I feel you're probably right there. Unless CVC get terribly
excited by the European Super league idea themselves?

Unfortunately, whilst I've met some Sarries fans who are genuine
rugby fans, I've met too many of the other end of the scale.
Happy to sling mud (STILL bringing up b****gate), and totally
dismissive of any suggestion of wrngdoing by their own club.They
also like to mouth off about how they will demolish Quins on the
pitch, but speedily disappear after the several occasions when
we've turned them over.
I'm loyal to Quins 100%, but will not defend the indefensible.
I'll always support Quins, but will acknowledge when we're in
the wrong, or when we're soundly beaten. Sarries fans that I've
met usually seem even more blinkered than some posters on here!

Do teams need to adhere to the salary cap for the European Cup -
or is it only for the Premiership?
In other words, could Saracens employ a whole load of marquee
signings with large paychecks and only register them for the
European completions and have a regular team that plays in the
premiership?
If so, this would probably be a suitable compromise. Sarries
would be able to compete against the French clubs - but, on the
other hand, the Premiership would still be competitive. It would
probably also help the England team as the game time for the
likes of Itoje could be managed as he would only be playing
maybe 12 England games + maybe 7/8 European cup games per
season.
It would make it very difficult for a team like Quins to win the
European Cup - but maybe no harder than it is now.

Only the Premiership, however, this takes everyone into account.
You have to name a squad for Europe but for the Premiership you
can play anyone at any time, from your academy upwards... so
that prevents the scenario you mentioned.

Andit would mean that Sarries would have n advantage in that
their Prem players might only paly less than 20 games per
season, unlike us mere mortal rule abiders...

well they would loose their place in Europe unless the qualify
through Premiership?

I think they are generally a well coached and drilled team. The
reason that I get a bit angry over the whole salary cap thing is
that, if they were to adhere to it in spirit, they would
probably still be in the top 4 teams every season. Basically, I
don't think that adding Daly on a mega-bucks deal will make any
difference to the team as they have their academy product and
European Player of the Year as starting full-back anyway.

Completely echo that it's not the fans fault if the club break
the rules but the staunch defence that they have done nothing
wrong allied to the abuse we took (and still take) from Sarries
fans about the past means that sympathy slips away.
When we all saw the pictures/video (or live if you were in the
right stand) of that capsule, we knew something wasn't right and
I certainly tempered my response to any criticism along the
lines of, 'who knows, let's wait and see what happens' rather
than 'oh no it wasn't'.
It's still technically possible that with the 9 points already
gained, plus they could still get maximum points out of their
remaining 17 games giving them a predicted total of 94 points.
Minus the 35 points and that still puts them on 59 points which
could still qualify them for the Top 4 plus they could retain
the European Cup.
So where exactly is the punishment?

I totally agree. Up until this weekend, there has never been
the slightest acceptance on their board that there might be some
wrongdoing. Finding it hard to be sympathetic.
If the investigation says they cheated then they should loose
the silverware, take a significant points hit, perhaps endure a
reduced Cap and be watched very closely in future. Makes a
mockery of the whole league.
If they kick off, then the league should close ranks on them.
Let them play in France and see how they do.

So if they lose silverware, who does it go to? The loser in the
respective final?
