Sarries board have got a piece from rugby pass on their site
forecasting 35 points deduction for £650,000 overspend. Sarries
site asking for incoming from other Clubs to bear in mind they
are only supporters. Did they do that for the event that we
don’t name? Perhaps someone cleverer than me can post. Forecast
is Tuesday announcement

I think an effective punishment would be to strip them of any
silverware won during the period of the proven breach. But I
can't see it happening. Still, it's nice that the fans on their
BB ask people to go easy on them (if my understanding is
correct. I'm sure that nobody will take the p* out of them at
all; not until all of the low-flying pigs have landed...

I have a feeling of sympathy for the Sarries fans' plea to not
jump all over them. It's one thing to lambast their club here,
should it prove to be in the wrong. However it's quite
provocative to go over to their fans site and start shouting
about it. The Saracens fans I have met are true rugby
supporters, and I'm sure they'll not be happy with any underhand
manipulation of the salary cap. And it's not as if the fans had
any say in what went on, anymore than we got asked if we were
happy with the team using joke shop blood capsules to manipulate
the substitution rule.

Like most clubs they have a mixture of loyal & knowledgable fans
and some less so- I've experienced both first hand. I think they
attracted more than their fair share of 'johnny come lately'
trophy hunters because of their enduring success too. I
empathise with their genuine long-standing fans though who have
committed no crime other than paying for their annual season
ticket and getting behind their team. If Sarries do receive the
punishments rumoured, I imagine Wray will stick two fingers up
at the Prem and it will probably just precipitate an
Anglo-French (+SA ?) superleague.

They’d have to persuade a couple of other clubs to join them
(Bath and Bristol spring to mind) which is the easy part. Then
they’d have to persuade the RFU to the new competition which is
harder. Then they’d need to be prepared to be sued to the nth by
CVC for devaluing their product. That is going to be a lot of
money and time and probably not worth it in the long run.
