Team vs London Irish
DIR By: WellingQuin

---------------------------------------------------------
HARLEQUINS HAS ANNOUNCED ITS SQUAD TO FACE LONDON IRISH ON
SATURDAY 28 SEPTEMBER IN THE SECOND ROUND OF THE PREMIERSHIP
RUGBY CUP (KICK-OFF: 15:00).
The team, captained by Aaron Morris, head to the Madejski
Stadium for their first away fixture of the 2019/20 campaign
following a win against Bristol Bears last Friday at The Stoop.
Making his 100th appearance for the Club this Saturday is number
eight Jack Clifford. Clifford joined Harlequins in 2012 and made
his England debut at the 2016 RBS Six Nations Championship,
going on to earn ten caps for his country.
Another milestone appearance is expected to go to Alex Dombrandt
who is on course for his 25th Club appearance, with the
22-year-old named as a Game Changer.
Head of Rugby Paul Gustard has continued to rotate his squad for
the second round of Premiership Rugby Cup action, with more new
faces making their debuts in the famous Quartered shirt.
South African lock Stephan Lewies will start for his first Club
appearance while Academy hooker Jack Musk will make his first
senior start, after making his debut as a Game Changer last
Friday.
Three other new faces have been confirmed in the 23 with scrum
half Lloyd Wheeldon in line for his first appearance alongside
Academy hooker Sam Riley and new signing South African
international Travis Ismaiel.
Harlequins supporters will get the chance to see exciting and
destructive young winger Cadan Murley in action for the first
time since April following a lengthy spell on the sidelines
after dislocating his elbow.
Paul Gustard, Harlequins Head of Rugby said: “Following our
match against Bristol last Friday, as a coaching group we are
happy with the effort shown by the players. We saw glimpses of
some of the things we have been working hard at in pre-season.
We didn’t expect the perfect performance last week and nor
should we, as it was our first hit out since May and we do not
start league action until October.
“We just want to keep building on our performances and the next
opportunity is London Irish. It’s another chance to rotate our
team a little bit to move our game forward and develop
consistency in two or three things that we have identified in
the set piece in particular and our general phase play.
“I know what a proud club London Irish are and that they are a
very well coached team under the guidance of Declan Kidney. We
know as a squad we will face a stern examination against a side
full of talent whom had a great result last week against
Gloucester and have been used to winning for a long time
following their promotion season last year. We go there knowing
we need to improve and relish the opportunity to play once again
in the Quarters.”

Great to see Caden Murley back following his injury, I thought
he was going to be out of action for longer.

Ditto on both points! I know we've played Lang as a Full Back
and occasionally Inside Centre, but I can't think of an occasion
where we've played him as an Outside Centre before. I'm guessing
part of it is ensuring all the squad who are fit get enough
game-time during the Prem Cup.

Really happy to see Saili starting, love that guy so much!!!
Great player and great bloke.
Dino Lamb has a chance to put himself in the mix this season. He
did alright on Friday. Go for it Dino!
Elsewhere, it is lovely to have Murley back after his nasty
injury, good for him, and Gabs deserves another run out and a
chance to cement that spot as his, amongst some tough
competition in the squad. He is another player that I love and
think is really starting to develop and mature as a special
player. That said, Ismaiel off the bench is going to be
exciting!
Bothma, Evans and Clifford is quite a nice variety of players in
the back row. I hope that we can see the best of Bothma this
season. He has a lot of ability and even more potential. He just
needs to keep it simple, not try to do too much, or lose his
head!
Herron gets another go, which is great for him. Morris as
captain is also a good move. Gussy is developing a squad of
leaders and is giving people a chance to take responsibility (as
with Crumpton skippering last week).
I realise that these games are cup/warm-up games but I am
starting to scratch my head about what our team will look like
against Sarries in 2 weeks and, more importantly, versus Exeter
in 3 weeks! Presumably, Robshaw, Brown, Smith, Symons, Baldwin
and Collier are chomping at the bit to be involved!
