In addition two points on the "Brown's ability to not pass".
1) this is something he's demonstrably worked on, hence the
offloading stats this season
2) even at its worst he was still producing assists
3) Daly also has the ability to bomb tries by not passing to the
open man and has done so several times for England but because
"he's an attacking player", it gets brushed over.
Daly's best position is number 23, for which he is perfect.
That's just as important as a starting back, and Jones used to
appreciate that even though he's now weirdly dropped that
philosophy (and subsequently his team has played worse over a
two year period). He's not good enough at a starting backs
position to start ahead of Brown, Nowell, Big Joe, Watson, Manu,
Marchant or JJ or Slade

Agree with all of that except the bit about Big Joe. Cokanasiga
has huge potential but he has not been backing his own power and
pace in the warm ups so far, and has been far too easily
contained. The difference between him and Manu, especially in
the Wales games, was quite marked - Joe was slowing down and
getting tackled, and Manu was just blasting away and breaking
them.

Whichever way you look at it it’s odd that you don’t have any
FBs that play in that position permanently for their clubs. Do
any other international teams have players playing in positions
they don’t for their clubs.

I’m sorry, DOK, but the idea that posters on a club website may
have noticed something that passed international coaches by is
quite amusing. :)

It was supposed to be tongue in cheek, yes. Of course they're
going to look at the protection round Daley, decide the high
ball isn't worth the effort (so in as far as it goes the
protection works) and then do something else entirely. Then we
put less people into protection...
