2017 Season by League Position

I've done a graph of league position by week in the 2017/2018
season with some Mickey Mouse analysis.
You can find it here

By the looks of it, if you do that a few years in a row, you'll
have knitted yourself a fine-looking scarf.

Very nice. Would be great to watch this throughout the season.
When you're feeling up to it 16/17 would be really interesting
;)

DOK - excellent analysis, but of course completely irrelevant.
New season: new circumstances.
Quins start with a must win game against Sale Sharks. Defeat
would simply confirm a hard season ahead and a battle against
relegation.

I'm intending to produce this about every 4-6 weeks during the
season.
Fully agree it tells us nothing about this season, nor is it
supposed to. It's just an interesting way of looking at last
season and the runners and riders.
It would be great to start with a win, but if there's one thing
that chart should convince you of, it's that it's not all done
and dusted in the first few months.

Looking at Quins' and Sale's seasons it does make you wonder
what might have happened at had Marler picked up a particularly
senseless red card in the away game.

This will be wearing my Sharky glasses but I'm not sure how much
change that would have made. Sale were on an upward curve at
that point (week 13) having gone from 10th in week 9 to 8th in
week 11 and on to 6th in week 14. My memory is that the malaise
was already becoming apparent at Quins.
In addition, the next 3 Quins games were Wasps, Tigers, Falcons
so I'm not sure any turnaround in momentum gained from beating
Sale would have been continued.
That said, Quins had smashed Saints the week before so maybe a
couple of wins would've changed things for you
