At least he was one of the form players in his position last
Prem season. Unlike some in the squad...

That's as maybe but his position was 8. The injuries (that we
know about) are 7s. Plus he's been nowhere near the squad
recently. If only there was an 8/flanker who'd been playing well
and in and around the squad this summer. Young lad. Bit of a uni
rig perhaps.

I guess the argument would be that Kvesic is much more 7 than
Dombrandt. But, more generally, there isn't much rhyme or reason
anymore anyway.

If we were looking for a seven if Underhill/Curry was out, I
would be happy with Kvesic. When i watch him he always seems a
pest to the oppo.

I love Dombrandt but he's not ready to play in a World Cup.

I'd take one of the Robshaws and just be done with it

So's Robshaw. Or Ben Curry. Or Jackson Wray. Or Don Armand for
that matter who actually plays there for Chiefs instead of
Kvesic.

Maybe it's just occurred to him that he could do with another
number 8 in the squad - so parachutes Kvesic in as a
2-birds-1-stone replacement. As I mentioned in another thread,
this squad is seriously unbalanced. Ideally, I'd want the number
1, 2 and 3 in most positions to be in Japan from the off. That
way, if your first choice gets crocked, 2 and 3 step up to
starting and bench berths respectively and you fly your
next-best over and give them a chance to acclimatise. That won't
be the case for Jones if, say, Sinckler picks up a knock. Or
Vunipola (assuming Kvesic drops back out of the squad). Or
Youngs. Or Faz. Or Daly. The list goes on. We can field 2.5
teams of wingers though - so that's good.

Kvesic has been playing well at 8 and covers 7, so isn't a bad
call up
However, his role at 8 is completely different to Billy's so
England would have to take a very different approach
Also, if Eddie rates him, why hadn't he played him or picked him
for a camp before this? If he gets called up, he won't have
proven international experience and he won't have had any chance
to gel with the others and get up to speed in the camp. The
whole approach is a bit weird. He'd be playing and training
with almost everyone in the pack for the first time ever in an
emergency. Which isn't the end of the world, but defeats the
point of a training camp
