Piers Francis still involved. Willi Heinz involved. Surprised
Harrison isn't. Surely there's room for some more SH cast-offs
and maybe some RL converts too.

Until Eddie announces the final, final, final World Cup Squad,
anybody could be in it. That includes me! And I’ve been dead for
over a year.

Well that's disappointing.
More disappointing is the fake encouragement from England
claiming those dropped might still have a chance to stake a
claim.
Not unless there are multiple injuries, they won't.
If I were Brown I'd be pretty peed off, mostly because of the
constant teasing of being dropped then recalled to camps then
dropped again, but also because there is no acceptably good FB
in the entire squad now, and certainly no back up FB (Daly, who
I once saw as Mike's successor, looks dodgy as F in that
position, Nowell is totally untested at international level and
Watson looked worse than Daly when he was last tried there and I
thought that experiment had been ditched)

Have to disagree re Daly: I think he lacks the fundamentals to
ever be a genuinely good international Full Back

Also seems slightly odd getting brown to do all that media last
week then drop him.
Piers Francis is probably the most bizarre one, then heinz.
Shields will no doubt come back in.
Urgh, depressing.
Hopefully the warm ups will give me more reason for optimism

I'd say it was great for Quins, but frankly we have cover in the
backrow, other solid if obviously worse options in the back 3
and we will be losing (probably) our starting props where we
look a lot less stacked in quality

But, of course, the likelihood of England getting anywhere near
the semi-finals with that squad and with no real leadership
is... remote.

The lack of leadership is my main worry. We have seen, from the
Scotland game, that Farrel is not a leader. He can kick a ball
well and is a good number 10 but not a leader. Panic sets in and
he loses control. We have seen this by his no arms tackling and
general complaining when anything goes against him. Perhaps
Itoje is a better choice?

I could see either Itoje or Wilson having more of that tangible
leadership aura about them but it's all a bit eleventh hour to
be chucking the captaincy band elsewhere isn't it? And, of
course, it's not just the captaincy. The class of 2003 had
leaders throughout. The same can't be said of this squad.

I would agree. The fact we are still wondering who will play in
about 1/3 of the positions is also a bit late! Who is playing at
15 - is this certainly Daly (and hope we get no high balls)? who
is playing on the wings as it is getting a bit of a hope to take
Nowell? who is in the centres - Merchant?
