Actually Blucherquin Steve Davies, the Somerset wicketkeeper,
came out about four years ago.

Oh, apologies. It appeared in the NewsNow feed for some reason.
Didn't think to check the date. But yes, to a certain extent
that almost makes it worse. Despite all the attention we pay to
LGBT rights, it seems a pity someone can't just say "Oh, yes,
I'm gay" in the same way the might say "Oh, yes I'm left handed"
or whatever. I just find it a tad disappointing that in our game
admission is feared to be a career limiting move.

It’s not a problem at all in the women’s game.

There is a twitter account by an anonymous gay championship
(football) player and I believe he came out to his family and
friends at Pride last weekend as a precursor to coming out
publically very shortly.

Whatever! I'm so bored of the endless rainbow bs all over the
place. I couldn't give two whoots who someone else wants to have
intercourse with. There was a very good article in the Spectator
last week about it. The tyranny of the pc thought police, l'll
probably be condemed for saying such things but I just don't
care.

You seem to care quite a lot about it. The author of that
Spectator article definitely cared a great deal, even going as
far to say that actually it's the people who don't like gays who
are persecuted now, which is, well. An opinion of sorts.

I'm sure this will be the comment that triggers the "please move
this to the non-rugby board, this is so OT, we don't care"
response, but to respond to Rocker (who I know is not my biggest
fan, but here I come in peace...)
I, like you, don't care who might want to jump into bed with
who. So in that sense we're on the same page. However, I'd
hazard a guess that you do not identify as LGBTQ+? Rhetorical
question, but unless you've lived under that banner or taken the
time to fully empathise with those of us under that banner it's
no surprise to me that you're "bored of the endless rainbow bs".
We're bored of being looked at differently and having our
situation dismissed too.
I don't know you from Adam, but if there is anything that has
ever made you feel different or that has ever meant you've been
treated differently from the majority then that would be your
gateway into some kind of empathy for the Pride position. Pride
is by no means perfect and there are a minority who misinterpret
the whole objective, but I'm sure from what you've said that you
feel no objection to LGBTQ+ people being treated just like
straight people. And that's why Pride is still relevant and
important. And why sportsmen coming out is still important.
Because currently, kids are still getting bullied at school for
showing emotion and thus being "gay", or for actually being gay,
or for having two mums/dads - and in less and less extreme cases
those kids are self-harming or worse. And in the adult world,
being straight is still an advantage in many industries in terms
of either getting a job in the first place and/or being promoted
once you're in it... and also if you just want to go for a drink
at the pub without getting beaten up.
So if you're bored, you're bored - but I also implore you to try
and empathise. And if you're still bored at that stage, I'd ask
politely why you feel the need to tell us that. How about a
positive contribution - Pride is trying to bring about positive
change after all, and I very much doubt that positive change for
the LGBTQ+ community would ever negatively affect the straight
community the way straight people feel their privilege is
somehow under threat of being taken from them and given to the
Priders, Robin Hood style.
The whole point is to make LGBTQ+ irrelevant so that straight
people no longer have to be bored of it, we no longer have to be
bored of fearing where our next bloody nose is coming from and
we can all just have happy sexy picnics dressed as Romans,
guzzling wine and feeding each other grapes.
