Innocent until proved guilty or a nasty piece of work?

Innocent until proven guilty, but then that's not the sponsors'
main concern. They're worried about their reputation - and as
the court of public opinion has had its say on Jackson, do
Diageo really have a choice? Especially after one sponsor has
already pulled out. I'd expect a domino effect now...

Cash Converters dropping London Irish on moral grounds is a tad
hypocritical.

Evans the footballer has been found not guilty eventually but
the things that came out don’t really make you think he’s a very
pleasant individual. I think the same could be said here too. I
hope the clubs decision doesn’t ruin their comeback.

It’s hardly “the court of public opinion”.
They are innocent of a crime, yes.
But their text messages were read out in an actual court - and I
guess brands who don’t agree with “spit roasting sluts” as being
an ideal “on brand” message for their female customer base have
made a decision.
Totally agree that they deserve to be rehabilitated - but also
see how for a lot of brands they just can’t risk the damage at
the moment.

Leaving aside the details of these individuals and their
'crimes', or 'not crimes'. I fail to grasp how companies can
justify commercially the expenditure on sponsorship.
There must be an awful lot of 'we think we are getting value for
money'. 'We think we are getting the right exposure to our
desired target audience'.
It must be the easiest decision in the world to drop a club, or
player, and choose someone else. Or leave the money in the bank?

I think the sad fact of this is that the reputation of those
Irish players will precede them wherever they go , they have
been found not guilty of rape , but all the ancillary comments
made by texts demonstrated they are pretty unsavoury characters
and disrespectful of women .
Anecdotally many LI ladies and families handed back or didn't
renew their Season Tickets .
Easy to lay charges against Diageo for all sorts , but by this
action they have demonstrated to their shareholders that they
will not tolerate an association with misogyny.
They will claim its about the moral high ground
IMO , Its always about money .

Update Paddy's Irish Whiskey also considering its sponsorship
on 'ethical grounds ' - presumably that means they don't want
Diageo to be seen to be more ethical than them .
