       My Wish List
   DIR By: deadlyfrom5yardsout

Got half an hour to kill while they refuel the chopper, so....
       Crooked Feeds.
A constant source of annoyance. I have seen even Danny feed it
straight through to the Number 8. It makes a complete mockery of
the Scrum and gets us dangerously close to neutering the power
and effectiveness of the Scrum. Referees to come down hard and
not just for the first game of the season.
       Not straight Line Outs.
I reckon about 20% of throws are actually straight. Why have a
Law and not enforce it? Is everything to be sacrificed on the
altar of "let's get the game restarted quickly as a running
       rugby spectacle".....
       Offsides.
I feel the majority of Teams push the line way beyond the limit.
What is the point of having a Lino unless he polices this for
the ref? Why can't we utilise some Technology in this area...its
not like TV companies don't have it to hand?
       Players yelling at Linesman.
Pet hate of mine. Rude and disrespectful. Not how I would like
to see the game I love developing.
       Lack of Drop Goal attempts.
This one really puzzles me. I can still do it pretty easily 25
metres out and I never played 10. I accept that I'm not doing it
       under match pressure but surely......
       Forward Passes
Everybody does it. I still maintain that if the ball reaches the
recipient ahead of where it was passed from then that is a
forward pass. Old chestnut I know and I've heard the arguments
about momentum but I just feel that both passer and passee
should be professional enough to make allowances for this.
       Blocking.
Not just under the high ball which is a grey area but that
situation where 3 backs are in front of the person who actually
receives the ball and accidentally on purpose get in the way
       thereafter.
Tackling "Long" ie beyond the ruck.
Very rarely penalised but is completely against the Laws and
spirit of the game. To pull an opponent into the ruck from
beyond the ball is just as bad too.
Diving off feet into prone bodies.
Basically they have got to stop this. Somebody is going to get
       killed.
Could think of more but the choppers ready now....

Anyone still advocating for "the person catching the ball should
be behind where the ball was originally passed from", after all
the arguments and discussion and videos and endless
explanations, wants an entirely different sport to the one we've
       _ever_ had.

Momentum is the right way to gauge a pass. The ball should be
received behind the passer. To not do so would require the
       receiving player to stand still.
       The current rule is good.
Agreed on offside, but the tech would need to rolled out across
the world and lower leagues. It would not be fair and as has
been shown by VAR and TMO, nothing can be 100% correct!
The game is not perfect, but the thing I would change would be:
       - no caterpillar rucks - it ruins the spirit of the game eg
       being a contest.

The 5-second "Use it!" to actually be enforced & penalised
       No Human Centipedes at rucks
An end to clearing out players who are a good couple of metres
behind the ruck, and the ancillary holding onto the "cleared
       out" player by the "clearer".

Get your point but the rest of the game succeeds without TMOs or
even Assistant Refs. Why would this tech be any different?

"The ball should be received behind the passer"...We agree!

That shows complete ignorance of how the game is played. And has
always been played since I started in 1973. And, as far as I’m
       aware, prior to then.
And that’s quite apart from the simple fact that it ignores the
law regarding a forward pass, which really isn’t that difficult
to comprehend. And it’s also really obvious why it’s the way it
is. At least, you’d think so.

If the passer is running, which most rugby players are when
questionable passes are made, then his momentum will take him in
front of the receiving player. Therefore it is not forward,
although it is if you took a slide rule. That is not going to
change as the momentum is the key.

Which is all fine and dandy so why bother having a "Forward
Pass" Law at all? Maybe we should change the Law to "must not be
more than 5 metres in front of passer when receiving the ball"
       Law?

You should try reading said law.
