Looking at the list of Premiership ins and outs, the season is
over but there are over 60 players currently listed as released
rather than retiring or moving on to a new club. Most clubs
have more departures than arrivals. This may not mean that we
have any more plans to recruit, but I hope that it means that
the transfer market is still active, rather than indicating that
the rush for fewer, more expensive, players means that there are
simply fewer opportunities in the Premiership in future.

Yep. I think there is still plenty of business to be done across
the Premiership.
We’re widely rumoured to be after a winger and a lock following
Earle’s injury and Horwill’s retirement and there are also
persistent rumours that the Cat is off (I think he’s listed as
already gone on that Wikipedia list) with us looking for another
10 to replace him.
There are other clubs that have barely announced any incoming
players, so I think there will be a good few signings that have
not yet been confirmed.

Yes not sure how you get from that post that our recruitment is
complete I hope it’s not as sone one else said there’s is
probably only 2/3 regular first team players in the list

I think the tag line from the article on the Offy is pretty
suggestive:
HERE IS THE FULL LIST OF NEW PLAYERS WHO WILL PLAY FOR QUINS
NEXT SEASON

What Fred said.
It's not really about "number of first team players signed" in
isolation though. It's about looking at the realistic 1st team
we already have and assessing where it needs to be bolstered.
Otherwise, what, you expect us to sign how many first XV players
each off-season? Whatever number you might come up with is
arbitrary - there's a budget so it's not reasonable to expect X
number of top class 1st XV starters to be signed year in, year
out. Unless you're letting the same number of players of the
same calibre go each season of course...
What I'm more interested in is replacing the quality we're
losing and bolstering positions we were not as strong in as we
would like to be.
I think the LH prop, hooker, back row and centre recruitment, on
paper, has strengthened us in those four areas. You could argue
the same is true at scrum half - although we have let 2 squad
SHs go, with 1 superior player incoming, so ideally need a new
academy prospect to emerge I'd suggest just to give us the
numbers there.
Full back, no change really (Herron provides cover).
So what does that leave?
TH prop - we've let 3 go, with 1 incoming. This needs bolstering
with probably another 2nd-choice TH - someone to genuinely push
Collier. At the moment it's too obvious that Sinckler starts and
Collier warms the bench. When Collier has to start, we're
immediately exposed.
Lock - the big one really. We all know what's needed - a marquee
signing. Still hoping that's in the works. Once we have a big
announcement here we can rest easy knowing that the second row
is competitive with 3 vying for the 2 starting spots initially
(marquee signing, Symons, Lewies) and others behind with
everything to prove to put themselves in the mix (Lamb, Young,
Freeman).
Fly half - this all depends on the Cat really. I hope he does
move on and we can get someone in - would be for the best all
round. The question then is how much quality we go for. I don't
know how many Barretts there are going to be realistically
available to us now so I'm coming round to the idea that maybe
someone like Brock James for a season isn't such a bad shout and
then we really gun for a marquee 10 end of next season if we
feel we need one at that point - although the way Marcus is
developing he might make that decision for us.
Wing - we need a proper injury dispensation replacement for
Earle for the season and I'd argue we need another squad wing
signing here too. We've lost Walker, Visser, Alofa. Campagnaro
and Morris offer cover there so I hope we'll see a very decent
wing come in for Earle and then a squad player of similar
quality to Alofa here.
So really it's only lock and wing for which we realistically
should be in the market for "regular first team players". For
me, if we can strengthen the above four areas in those ways,
that would leave me feeling we have a squad capable of building
on this season's improvements. Currently, as announcements
stand, I think we've lost ground on a few teams around us in
terms of recruitment - Sale the most scary example.

Yep, as others have pointed out, doesn't say anywhere that that
is a finished list. There will be further additions.

Perhaps some from Academy coming up?
Perhaps some signings may remain under wraps until after World
Cup?

Eben Etzebeth... But I believe he's signed elsewhere. Still, I
can dream...
Frans Stwyn, still loads to offer, covers a variety of
positions, shouldn't be too expensive...

The sum total of the new recruits does not suggest that Quins
will be any closer to competing with Exeter and Sarries next
season, or for that matter doing anything significant in Europe.

I have faith that Gussy has signed players with the right
mentality that he can help to improve. These signings are
exciting for what they can become during the course of the
summer and into next season.
