Surely we ‘only’ need to get two more points than Saints to
guarantee fourth spot.
If Saints leave Sandy Park with nothing, which is quite possible
since Chiefs will be keen to finish at number one, at the moment
Sarries can take top spot with a five point win, then two points
will see us in fourth, with 56 points, which no one else can
reach, so we can still lose get a losing bonus point and a try
scoring point, but a win would be better.
I really can’t see Saints coming away with five points from
Chiefs, if Chiefs are trying to win.

Saints “only” need to win - they don’t need a bonus point win.
This is because - even if we win with a bonus (big if) - they
will have won more games than Quins over the course of the
season.

I can see us and Saints losing tbh. Exeter have this weekend to
rest any players. They will have a full side out against
Saints.

Genuine question - why would Chiefs want to finish 1st? It
doesn't mean anything, they've both got home semi-finals, that's
the best you can achieve at this stage.
I had completely assumed that Chiefs would rest basically their
whole first XV and that therefore we don't have a hope.
Wasps have something to play for, Saints have something to play
for, we have something to play for, Chiefs don't....
But am I missing some reason that Chiefs would see it
differently?

It’s a bit catch 22 for Chiefs in my opinion, they haven’t hit
the heights with recent performances so would they rest majority
of their key players in hope they come good for the semis or
play them vs Saints to try and sharpen them up.
I would hope they go full strength vs Saints and go for top
spot, like Blucher said that there’s no real season to but it
always looks better to finish top of the pile then 2nd and you
don’t want to lose at home

So that it goes on the record - finished first. It is a league
based competition, after all.
Do you ever go in reception at The Stoop? I can remember when we
had a trophy cabinet with lots of cups in it. I don't think we
even have a trophy cabinet now, do we? Probably sold it on ebay!

I think if anything Chiefs would be thinking a lot less about
finishing top and much more about taking some momentum into
those playoffs. That would be the only logical reason for
playing their first choice 23 against Saints. Blucher's
suggestion that they might rest the lot of them is just as
logical - keeping all their best guys fit and ready to go to
business in that semi final. At this stage we're all just
guessing - only Baxter and his lieutenants know what the plan is
right now I'd suggest.
All Quins can do is look to win against Wasps. We need at least
a point to guarantee top 6 anyway so the stakes are high.

I think the Chiefs will play their first XV for two reasons.
Firstly it would mean that they would have gone 4 weeks without
playing come the semi-final. Which,although avoiding injury, is
too long a break to keep match sharpness. Secondly, if they lose
to Saints, the following week will be the same fixture in the
semi-final with Saints having just won at Sandy Park. That is as
good a momentum as you could ask for as an away semifinalist.
I'm sure they'd much prefer to play a team that they had just
beaten at Sandy park......like us!! fingers crossed COYQ

Huh? Not sure what you mean on the trophy cabinet thing.
But specifically it doesn't go down on the record because no one
remembers who came first in the league, they remember who won
the Premiership. So it is league based, but coming first wins
you nothing.

Put yourself in Rob Baxter’s place; who would you rather play at
home in a semifinal play off?
Gloucester, with all the heat of a local derby against a team
that has been playing well for some time now. OR
Saints, a team that has just beaten you at home and has only
recently put some form together, OR
Quins, say no more.
Any one with some brain cells (and Rob Baxter certainly has lots
of those) would probably put those three in reverse order to as
listed above, the best chance of doing that is to beat Saints in
the last round of the Premiership.
