I thought Beauden was going to Japan after the world cup, pretty
sure I read that somewhere anyway.

He's been the subject of speculation for over a year but his
whereabouts post-WC haven't been confirmed yet. It came out that
any NZRU contract post-WC would likely have a sabbatical written
into it and then the rumour mill went mad. But as yet, no
official announcement on where he's going and whether or not he
will leave NZ rugby for a number of years or wangle a year in
Europe/Japan on a cushy paycheck and then be back with the
Hurricanes.

Re: the cap, with Horwill retiring a year early, we almost
certainly have at least one marquee slot open.
Personally, I would love to see how Marcus would develop with
Beauden to learn from. I've been impressed by how much he's
learned already - the improvement in his defence shows that he's
clearly willing and able to pick things up quickly.

I'm referring to the rumours as posted by the OP on this thread
and also the rumours that circulated earlier this year (2019)
that Gussy had had a stab at recruiting Beauden. So yes, there
have been rumours circulating more recently that are unrelated
to the 2018 April Fool's joke.

DC posted a photo of him and Beauden in Dubai on Instagram back
in January. No indication as to whether they went there
together, but I can't help but feel Beauden Barrett isn't the
sort of person you just bump into on a holiday. It's probably
nothing, but it's certainly a not a bad thing that they're
decent enough friends off the pitch already. What a 9/10
partnership - fastest in the league?
