This paragraph is the point I've been hammering on about on
every thread here - it is vital to understand this and not
underestimate CVC's involvement and who has the power here:
"Talk to some and they insist CVC’s arrival is great news: the
more competitions touched by their investment, the more chance
there is of an integrated global fixture calendar. They also
relish the extra money and insist CVC’s influence will only
really be felt in commercial areas. Maybe, but if so why is Mark
McCafferty looking to retain his seat on English rugby’s
powerful Professional Game Board after he steps aside as
Premiership Rugby’s chief executive this summer to join CVC as a
consultant? Anyone who imagines rugby will meander along as
before without a great deal changing does not fully understand
       how private equity firms operate."

Entirely agree Blucher. CVC are in it for money at the end of
the day and profit when they exit. Mark will want to keep a
finger in every pie. They are not interested in spectators at
the ground just millions on TV which = advertising = cash for tv
companies and profit for themselves. We were promised the holy
grail when the European cups changed from Heineken and Irish
control. absolutely nothing has happened no better organised for
fans and now no sponsor for Challenge Cup. Great to choose NCL
for final but not many beds up there and even when first
announced cost very high and would have meant flying to EDI and
driving or Teeside. For the big cup the Irish clubs can charter
in and out same day but not others. Europe is not a cash cow for
CVC but pro 14 v Premiership would be.

Obviously pros and cons to an outfit like CVC getting involved,
but the precarious nature of the Prem clubs' finances before the
CVC investment was a big source of worry and - for now at least
       - i think CVC will stabilise what was not quite a sinking ship,
       but certainly a floundering one.
       Without CVC:
       - Clubs in debt propped up by sugar-daddy owners with deep
pockets who could lose interest at any time
       - Prem rules/salary cap/ringfencing unfairly dictated by the
same owners based on the threat of pulling out
       - Club rugby (Prem, Pro 14, Europe) struggling to grow compared
       to internationals
       - Player welfare threatening to put more pressure on attendances
(fewer appearances of international 'stars') + salary caps and
       budgets
       - Clubs beholden to TV revenue/BT Sport
       - Not enough new fans/younger demographic coming in to watch
       - National press mostly not interested unless there's an
       International angle
       etc
       With CVC:
All of the above but with a bunch of hawkish money men highly
motivated to ensure that the Prem and its clubs survive and
grow....but may take steps that upset the fans to achieve it
(e.g. mid week games, TV scheduling, ringfencing, stupid PR
       stunts)
Who knows what we'll think about it in 5yrs, but at least its
less likely that Quins will go bust....

Literally no-one is under any illusions as to who CVC are and
       why they've been brought in

What do you mean - "literally no one is under any illusions".
In your sentence what does the word 'literally' contribute?
