If he has international aspirations then he needs to be good
enough to be first choice. On the showings so far, he isn't. He
was better on Saturday, but he still kicked out on the full and
his sniping was weak.
His box kicking improved immeasurably though. As above, I'd need
to see a lot more before wanting to keep him.

Scrum half's a tough role to just drop into, and his performance
against Saints was ropey, but he improved a lot vs Clermont. If
he continues to improve, I would be happy to see him stay -
though presumably we'd need to position him as the successor to
Care as starter, with Landajo in the Adam Jones mentor / backup
role.

I'm just being greedy in wanting him to stay really. I don't
think he's going to be a long term successor to Danny at all -
we should be aspiring to having a better first choice 9 than
him. I'd be happy to have him as backup to Danny and Landajo if
he likes being at Quins and wants to stay but that's up to him.
I can't see him regularly starting ahead of either of those guys
and then I'd like to see either Saunders or Waters (or both)
emerge as viable heirs to Care's throne. It'll all be up to him
and Gussy to decide but I'm sure he's aware of who he'd be
behind in the pecking order in terms of reputation and quality.

Care is standout first choice, when available. I don' know
enough about Landajo, but he may also take time to get in synch
with the team; during that time Sam may move on leaps and
bounds. It's also been mentioned that Landajo is 32, so will he
be slowing down noticeably in the very near future? Care seems
to still have that zip about him, but seems to be spending more
time injured this season than previously; as you get older, it
takes longer to heal, plus he's had a couple which you can't
legislate for (ribs for example).
I thought he looked much better on Saturday. Still early days,
but coming into a team mid-season when everyone (should) knows
their teammates can't be easy, and there will inevitably be
hiccups in such a pivotal position as scrum-half.
Maybe the plan is to manage the two older players' game time,
whilst also giving them some competition?
I'd like him to stay, but wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't.

Landajo is 30 and very much 2nd choice for next season (and, I
would think, at least a season or two after that as well...)

I agree I think he was really good in his short time.
I feel like Landajo is too slow to get the ball out and in play.
gives the defence time to get set and back into position.
That being said I still think Landajo will improve and become a
good player for us. but at the moment I am nervous when DC isn't
playing.

To be fair, most good players are juggling more than one offer,
being chased by more than one club. We don't know if Harlequins
tried to secure his services. The draw of playing for the best
team in the league against one with big ambitions but so far
very little substance.... Well who would you go to?

His last three contracts have been injury cover (us), world cup
cover and a short term extension to the world cup cover. He
came to us due to lack of game time. I get what you mean, but I
think it feels like there was a period where any permanent
contract would have been welcome.
