He's a great player but he is currently a liability at crunch
moments. I use liability in its proper sense that his (current)
behaviour puts teams he's in at a disadvantage.
Teams both at national and club level are deliberately targeting
him and he's reacting - he had cut it out when Jones got hold of
him a few years back but it's now back in full effect. Maybe
Adam doesn't have quite the sway he did over him when it was
more of a "junior and master" relationship.
But it's hurt us badly twice in a few short weeks. No doubt
their 6 was niggling him that led to that reaction but you just
can't react these days.
As Warburton said on BT (as graciously as he could), if you're
going to play like that you need the emotional intelligence to
deal with it and not react.
They said it looked like it had reached the point his teammates
need to sit him down and explain that he's hurting them.

But this is what happened with Marler. For a number of games he
seemed unable to not react, he was getting wound up and becoming
a penalty machine. And it didn't get solved in one game or one
month even. I think this is something Sinkler has to work
through (with support) until he can laugh it off like Joe does.

I guess the advantage that Joe has is that he's no longer an
international. In that sense, he doesn't have the sword hanging
over his head that any misdemeanours could affect his
international ambitions. Strangely it should be the other way
around though - Kyle being more conscious of his antics.
Maybe Kyle is struggling with the pressure, as Joe did?

KS seems to get more wound up (he's naturally on the edge, by
his own admission) when his opposing prop gets the better of him
- especially obvious during the Wales, Sale and Clermont games.
When he is being bettered, he seems to respond by being petulant
and careless. He really has to learn to control this. Marler
seemed to do it by concentrated on his scrummaging skills - this
is the medicine that Sinks needs to drain away his blind rage
and provide more control. It is the source of the problem and by
learning to take the hit and the initial pressure from the
opposing LH/Hooker, he'll improve as a scrummager and be a world
class all-round beast of a player, but in a positive way.
I cannot imagine that PG will be planning anything other than
keeping him and providing the best training and coaching he
needs. At least, I hope so.
