He's heading to the USA apparently. There's talk of him moving
into a player/coach role for the Westboro Baptist RFC.

Goshdarnit, this is one of the best threads I've read here for
ages! For the most part measured and well argued. Chapeau you
all.
(For what it's worth, my god is rubbing its (gender neutral)
hands at the prospect of Folau wandering past just so it can
have a quiet word ;) )

This is always a difficult subject.
Basically the right to freedom of speech and beliefs is a broad
and difficult issue.
You have aright as I understand it in law to freedom of
expression. The classic counter to this is the you however
can't shout fire in the theater, because you put peoples life in
danger. Another example is you can't tell a person on the window
ledge to jump. However I think it is a grey area to say you
can't express a view because someone may take offence or be in a
depressed state and it may force them over the edge.
I for instant would come under a few of the categories in post
that has got him fired, fornicator - lived with my wife before
we got married after 7 year together, Atheist- just don't
believe and being honest a couple of the other categories as
well.
However I don't take offence from what he said, I understand he
is following his faith. I think he is wrong on many fronts but
we are all entitled to our beliefs and to express them.
The Pope I believe is an honorable person but if pushed in to a
corner would I believe express similar views but probably in a
more elegant way. His church after all follows the same texts.
The fact he has been sacked is not about freedom of speech but
following his employers code of ethics which he has signed up
to. He has found it impossible due to his faith to follow these
and this was his choice.
However I defend his right to freedom of expression however
wrong I feel they are as no direct harm to life was intended. I
also feel that people are wrong to deny others their right of
expression to say what they believe. They however if they put
themselves in a public forum have to expect that people who
disagree with them will tell them.
Maybe I am strange but frankly I can't get worked up by what he
said and apparently I am going to hell. He lost his job as he
could not follow his "companies" code of conduct serves him
right.
I am however not guilty of the following sins
Supporting Wasps
Cheering on Saracens

I happen to think he’s a gay hating foul bigot but as repeated
endlessly - it’s not freedom of thought or speech - he broke his
employers code and I’m proud that’s rugby’s code.
Can’t sum it up better than this really, written by an Aussie
this am for the Guardian:
“Israel Folau is free to hold the view that people like me are
bound for hell. He is free to express that view, as we see in
the post still on his Instagram page calling for people like me
to “repent”.
But freedom of speech and freedom of expression is not freedom
from consequence, and Rugby Australia has enacted a consequence
for Folau’s repeated use of his social media to vilify gay
people.
There is certainly room for a discussion in 2019 about whether
our speech should be beholden to social media policies and how
far the HR department can reach into the public square. But
Folau isn’t an 18-year-old working in the food court at your
local Westfield complaining that his fast-food chain sucks; he
is an international sports star and an ambassador for rugby. And
he is remunerated accordingly.
It’s not so hard. My Instagram is private because, understanding
how my job intersects with my (small) public profile and the
influence that would hold”
