No surprise he has gone. We had a terrible defence. I think Nick
Evans will be staying from the JK era but he will be the only
one.

An absolute legend as a player and that’s how I prefer to
remember him. Less said about the defence last year the better,
the defence never really looked sound. I just hope he gets some
good experience in the championship/lower leagues and becomes a
quality coach.

I think he's certainly the oldest player to score a hat-trick at
the RWC - and I genuinely believe that the 2015 RWC could have
turned out differently if Lancaster had trusted a fit and in
form Minty instead of hoping that Vunipola and Morgan could play
to their potential when struggling back from injury.

Given that NEv has appeared in some of the articles the club has
posted in the last few weeks with a new title of Skills & Off
The Ball coach, I'd say he's not going anywhere for the moment.

Yeah and Minty showed up on video SA sounding like he was still
working for Quins three weeks ago..it’s the world of fake
news...maybe Quins doesn’t even exist anymore

While there were certainly times when the defence was like
tissue paper, I'm not sure you can fully blame the defence
coach. The scrum coach(es), the attack coach and the skills
coach could all be accused of much the same problems.
Individually, such as the coaching of Marcus Smith or Sinckler
they were fine.
When I heard Minty talking about defence, he obviously had a
good handle on the subject. The team just weren't playing for
each other last season. They wouldn't trust the system, so
people who were supposed to drift wide were diving in to try
tackles someone else should have done and so leaving the big gap
at the end of the line for some victorious opposition player to
trot over the line.
There was something seriously wrong with the team psyche last
season, and the poor defence wasn't (all) down to the defence
coach.

Well said, DOK.
One of the huge frustrations of last year was that when the team
actually played, both the attack and the defence worked well -
but too often players were caught out of position or didn't seem
to trust each other. From what I can see, Minty had a clear view
on a system that had good potential to work - but the players
either didn't buy in or lacked the fitness to do it.
Is he completely to blame for our defensive lapses? Probably
not. Is he carrying the can for wider system failings? We may
never know, but I suspect not. The timing of his departure
suggests to me that Gustard was willing to give him a chance but
that they didn't gel for whatever reason.
In the long run, I suspect he will emerge as a very effective
coach, but that he will benefit from a bit of distance and a
chance to refine his skills in a less high profile environment.
On the plus side, we will probably get to see more of him as a
pundit as a result...

I'd say that as NEv has a new title, that sounds like he's still
in place.

I agree. I think Minty tried too hard to be innovative and the
payers either couldn't understand it or wouldn't buy into it.
However, its a results driven business and he had to go really.
I bet he will pop up somewhere else as an excellent coach based
on what he has learnt so far.
