The RFU is definitely in a mess at the moment, but I doubt that
even roof repairs would cramp their style in hiring a top coach.
The cost of a coach is relatively small in the grand scheme of
things.
The RFU had turnover of £172m last year; Gatland is rumoured to
be on £450,000 pa for Wales. A good coach is a driver of good
performances, good performances drive revenue. Not spending what
it takes to get the coach they think will drive the best
performance is a false economy, and even the RFU knows that.
