(OT) - Twickenham roof repairs that may scupper England's
       chances of luring ......

The shock Twickenham roof repairs that may scupper England's
       chances of luring Warren Gatland
A survey of England's headquarters has found millions of pounds
worth of remedial work is needed
Any plans by England to throw big money at Warren Gatland could
be revised amid shock reports that parts of their Twickenham
       fortress require costly repair work.
It's understood a detailed examination of the stadium found the
glass reinforced plastic roof panels covering the west, north
and east stands will have to be replaced.
The east stand recently underwent an £81m refit of hospitality
facilities, but the cost of buying and laying new roofing has
been put in the multi-million pound bracket.
The Rugby Football Union has already forecast losses of more
than £11m in the next financial year despite big-wigs planning
to make savings of £10m following a cost-cutting review.
There have already been major cuts, which included more than 50
redundancies, and the community game could lose up to £5m of
       funding next year.
The full cost of renewing the roofs, which will take place over
the next two years, hasn’t been finalised or whether the work
       will limit attendances for matches.

I doubt this is as much of a shock as some reports are saying.
The roof panels in those three stands are older than those in
the South Stand (as anyone looking up them can tell). They are
also as I understand it designed with a predicted 20 to 25 year
life, so they are coming to the end of that period...

May I point out that it wasn't a 'refit' in the East stand - it
is new. I have been round the East stand hospitality facilities
       and they are something special.
The North stand was opened in 1991. The East in 1994. The West
in 1995 and the South in 2006.

Well it was kind of a refit, all they did was stick a new skin
to the outside of the stadium to create space then fit out the
stuff inside. Clever bit of design but not a rebuild.

The RFU Annual Report is online for anyone that is interested.
We (England) have an income roughly equal to the combined
incomes of Wales, Scotland and Ireland, but we can't make ends
       meet!
Drinks party in a wine bar - anyone?

If they haven’t budgeted for this it wouldn’t surprise me in the
       slightest.
Still run like an old man’s private members club rather than a
business, despite attempts to change it.

I can imagine those that do the day to day running of the place
are overruled by the blazer brigade on a regular basis

I remember being over the road at the World Cup and the roof
looked so filthy and wondering why no attempt to clean it when
Twickenham town pavements had a makeover?
Did the RFU not bank anything from the World Cup?
