       9th Signing - Tom Lawday
   DIR By: WellingQuin

NUMBER EIGHT JOINS THE CLUB FROM EXETER CHIEFS FOR 2019/20
       SEASON
Harlequins can confirm that Tom Lawday will join the Club for
       the 2019/20 season.
The powerful Number eight, who is currently with Exeter Chiefs,
is a former BUCS player of the season and has represented
       England Students.
Lawday, who capped his final year at the University of Exeter
with that BUCS award and as top try-scorer in BUCS Super Rugby
in 2016/17, joined the Chiefs that summer.
He made his Chiefs debut against Quins at the Stoop in the
Anglo-Welsh Cup in the 2017/18 season and scored a try for them
a week later against Cardiff Blues.
The 25-year-old said: “I have been really impressed with what
has been going on at Harlequins this season and know it is a
club with very strong ambitions. I am looking forward to playing
at The Stoop for Gussy and this team and know that a lot of
       success lies ahead there.”
Head of Rugby Paul Gustard said: “Tom is a very impressive
Number eight and we are excited that he has committed his future
       with us.
       “He is a strong, ball-carrying, tackle-breaking, all-action back
row who I believe will continue to improve individually and help
us improve collectively as a team. He is an impressive young man
who is the archetypal modern-day back row forward.
“I have watched him play a lot this season and, in every game,
there have been signs of real quality and ability to be special
and make a difference. We really like what we have seen in terms
of his on-field strengths and in meeting him we are very happy
that he exhibits the kind of behaviours that we look for.
“I am sure he will be very well received by our wonderful
supporters and we are delighted he will be playing in the
       quarters next season.

Welcome Tom. Another I don't know much about but look forward to
seeing. Can't see Bothma's contract being renewed now, but who
       knows

Assuming that means one star - otherwise my commiserations. Not
sure it’s that underwhelming, he performed well in place of
Simmonds and we can offload Bothma and Wallace.

I think Lawday is a cracking player. Seen him for Exeter before
we were linked and thought he looked really good. Happy with
this. Re Bothma, Id like him to stay, but if he did go I would
not be devastated. Our BR looks very good. I would say more
likely, Wallace and Luamanu out, Evans and Lawday in.

I see him replacing Luamanu, with Evans replacing Wallace and
probably also Kunatani. Am I wrong in thinking Bothma is still
       in contract next season?
