Wow -- so here we go -- the battle is on.
Will the 6 Nations take this or go for the CVC cash?
Either way this is a massive moment for the future of the sport.
Some changes for the better in this new proposal -- I can't work
out if I think this devalues the World Cup or not?
I think in the end I don't, in the way that this new football
competition with the silly name doesn't really...
Anyone?

I'm still of the view that having a yearly "World League
Champion" in the new competition devalues being the RWC
champion. We're not like the round-ball game, where there's
enough top flight countries and the gap between the top and the
second tier is close enough to mean that there's any team from
the last 16 *could* win a world cup. Realistically, you would
say that the final of the yearly competition is going to come
down to New Zealand vs either Ireland, England or Wales pretty
much every year, with NZ the likely winner bar an upset once or
twice a decade. In the World Cup at least there's a chance that
a pool of death means that a match up between NZ and one of
their real contenders happens at either the QF or SF stages and
the upset happens there, leading to a Final between someone like
England & Ireland.

I tend to agree. I'd rather see this Nations Championship guff
killed with pointy sticks and fire, and the 6N countries take
the CVC money. Equally, I'd also like to see the 6N revamped to
include promotion and relegation (one or two teams). That way a
team other than Italy - who have been toilet for 19 seasons -
will have the change to be ritually humiliated play against the
top flight and hopefully learn from teh experience. Will that
ACTUALLY happen though? Unlikely, since nothing says rugby like
an old boys' club. [emoji19]

6 Nations should jettison Italy and bring in New Zealand, then
we'd have an annual competition between the best four teams in
the world (with Scotland for local colour and France for their
TV audiences). forget the rest, who are just after our money.
