Au contraire. Most comments seem to be that we didn't lose
because of Barnes, and that we would have lost anyway. I haven't
read a single comment that Barnes was a factor. He was, however,
poor. And people do mention poor reffing when we win.

Why is it ridiculous? The two factors aren't mutually exclusive.
Or are you saying he must have been excellent because we lost?
We lost because of Quins. Barnes being awful is a separate
matter. Neither caused the other.

For those that couldn't make it yesterday , The wind had a huge
influence on the game and presumably refs decisions too ..
several have called the 3rd try pass forward , but it seemed to
me it started backward then was blown about a metre or so
forward .. Glaws have posted this video of a Twelvetrees kick
which demonstrates how strong it was .. it was ferocious all day
swirling and gusting but mainly from SW corner to NE corner .
The path behind the West stand was taped off because of fear of
trees coming down and only one screen could be up and that was
down at floor height to prevent getting blown over
Glaws played the conditions better all game Cipriani's kicks
were mainly flat and hard , ours were up in the air and either
too long or blown back in our face , or away from touch ..

I sat on East Stand front row on Sunday and could hear many
calls from the crowd for offside - I'm not sure that your faith
in their calls is related to whether they are offside or not!
Glaws defensive line was up very quick - like ours was at Bath,
when the home fans were shouting "offside" every time we
defended...

As BQ highlighted earlier, it’s the obvious implication. But
then you know that.
Of course, your comments about Barnes elsewhere and obvious
dislike of the man don’t help your case either.

It’s the general volume of the crowd. Then the comments on
here.if the crowd reaction is very loud you know that there is
some kind of issue, usually backed up by rewatching the game
and eyewitnesses accounts on here. There is often “murmur “ from
the crowd which never convinces me. I wouldn’t say, from my
position in the North stand, that from the crowd reaction there
was a lot of obvious offsides. Somebody mentioned the forward
pass, which it was, for their third try might have been blown by
the wind. That doesn’t matter, forward is forward, if you kick
off and the wind blows the ball back into your own half the ref
doesn’t let it go, same as a lineout that’s blown two metres
your way. Considering the conditions,36 did really well with his
kicks. How does he do that thing where it looks like it’s fading
wide and then it swerves back through the posts?

Couldn't agree more with Quinky. Cookie you should read all the
disclaimers before you launch forth. Just in case you missed
them - We were poor and Gloucester played extremely well and
thoroughly deserved their win.
My criticism was of how the officials failed us in a small
number of areas and we deserve better from them in a profession
era.
Say the linesmen in professional game of tennis decided not to
call a ball out because the ralley was going so well and
everyone was enjoying it. Well that's a good analogy to the
rugby officials not calling infringements. Wayne Barnes
advocates that the game should keep going whilst such things
like offside are not impacting on the game. I'd argue that they
do. I might be wrong but in South Africa they have been trialing
an assistant referee to specifically charged with officiating
the offside. Zero tolerance for a few weeks would soon cure
teams of it. Quins as much as all the others. Its boring,
irritating and spoiling the game by not allowing the flow of an
attacking team. It allows the defenders to shut down an attack
illegally.

The role of the referee is simply to ensure that the best team
wins. And the best team won.

It just all looks like sour grapes, that's all. I didn't think
Barnes was bad at all. Some people have prejudices against him
going way back that they really need to let go.

As TT says, you should read the comments. Nobody on here has
said Barnes cost us the game. Nobody has denied that Glos were
by far the better team on the day. No implications, just
straight talking.
But your implications are that fans of a losing team can't
criticise a ref, and Barnes can only have been bad if I don't
mention it.
What about others who say that he had a bad game? Do they also
obviously dislike him?
