Amidst all of this you have to wonder about the players
attitude. PG said from a coaching pov he got it wrong but he
also said the players just didn't front up enough. I can't
decide if the players were just trying too hard hence all the
errors or whether there was just a collective brainfart on the
day. Gloucester were quite good enough without us contriving to
make them look even better!

Without wanting to sound like I know much amount about it but
we've all watched a lot of sport and it did look a lot like a
side who just didn't cope with a big pressure moment and went
blank.
Every win of those previous 5 would have notched up the pressure
and expectation in the dressing room on a side that only a year
ago were a total shambles - this was the big test and they
appeared to not be up to it mentally.
A more mature team could have adapted, steadied the response and
not frozen, Gustard clearly annoyed that they didn't and said
so.
Our defence has been shaky but has been compensated for by
having an edge going forward against teams not as good as
Gloucester.
Overall we are in a much much better place than we were, there
is still a way to go - possibly a good lesson for a side that
may have just needed a reminder that there's still lots of work.

The way I am looking at it is that at the start of the season I
would have been delighted with top 6 so the position Quins are
in now is well above that and one that Quins with a few more
wins can maintain, the performance yesterday was a blip where as
compared to last season the performance yesterday would have
been normal. I believe with the rumoured signings Quins are only
on an upward trajectory.

Agree with much of this. Blocking runners is something that
makes my blood boil, like going beyond the ruck and tying in
players.
My take on yesterday's game is this: Barnes was awful. Quins
were awful. No correlation, no blaming one for the other. We
were well and truly spanked, and I think that would have
happened whoever was reffing us. But to say that people are
complaining about Barnes because we lost is risible. I haven't
heard a single person blame him for the defeat... has anyone
blamed him? And to those that say he was very good, perhaps you
should watch through the game again.
We lost, fair and square. Glos were very good and deserved the
win. I wish that Barnes would never ref us again.

Well firstly if Barnes had reff'd better we still wouldn't have
won as we were clueless and inept. Having said that Barnes was
appalling, several high tackles on our players missed
constantly, first high tackle which was marginal as the tackled
player dropped down and Marchants arm therefor slipped higher he
gets carded, next high tackle against Gloucester which was a
neck tackle and just a pen to us. I just want consistency,
listening to Barnes call no advantage every time their blockers
ran in front of our tacklers but as they only made a few yards
he let it go, I heard him make that call about 4 time at least.
If they are blocking it doesn't matter if we snagged them a
couple of yards later it was still a block and a pen, all that
happened was they retained possession 3 or 4 yards further
forward and recycled, that's an advantage in my book vs loss of
possession and a pen against. Don't get me started on how often
he ignored the constant offsides, a really poor day at the
office from him. Quins were just poor yesterday and well done to
Gloucs they ripped us up and took their chances, we didn't leave
the changing room.

Marchant was a clear card. He flew in recklessly. If you fly in
you MUST go low. It's not the ball carriers responsibility to
stay upright.

Has anyone said that Barnes did cost us the game?
Do you think we shouldn't be allowed to criticise a ref when
we've been fairly and squarely beaten by a better team on the
day?

No but the implication keeps coming back that it was a factor in
why we lost.
Barnes may have had an off day but when you take a kicking it
makes every decision seem calamitous - if we'd won they wouldn't
have got a mention.
Quins totally bottled it and failed -- Gustard called it out, he
says it was the joint worst performance of the season.

I just think it's ridiculous to say 'the ref didn't cost us the
game' but 'here's a long list of things he got wrong'.
As if we weren't pushing the offside line, sending kick chasers
ahead of the kicker, blocking etc. To suggest the refereeing was
so one-sided is baffling.
Oh, and one last thing.......most of what people are complaining
about (e.g. forward passes, offside, kick-chasers in front,
closing the gap) are for the touch judges to spot, not the
referee. And what's more, as anyone who listened to the BBC
podcast last week, high tackles will have been looked at by the
TMO on an ongoing basis, so if he didn't think they were high,
you can blame him.
