Re: New Player signings

Forgot about Isiekwe. If I was Kpoku I'd be out of there toute
suite with that little lot ahead of me...
My only concern about the Kpoku rumour would be whether he is in
addition to Snyman or instead of. In addition to = great.
Instead of = no thanks (i.e. if it comes down to one or other
then Snyman please!)
We've been a development club for far too long - always have
plenty of players "with potential". All for having a raw talent
like Kpoku - he looks as though he will be a serious talent -
but we reeeally need to be aspiring to have a proper, world
class or leading Prem class player in each position now.
If you go through each position and look at our squad we're not
far off having a top Prem quality player (and by that I mean a
player you could easily say is one of the best in that position
in the Prem) in each area of the field...
Prop - Marler, Sinckler
Hooker - class required (Baldwin rumoured - probably just about
does it along with Crumpton who's been great)
Second row - Snyman if true fills this void (Symons has been
understatedly brilliant for us)
Back row - Robshaw, Dombrandt (on this season's form), Clifford,
Chisholm (although he's been less in form recently, I still
think he's a top player)
SH - Care (need successor to come through in next couple of
years)
FH - Smith (yes, still young, but undoubtedly one of the best
10s in the league already)
Centre - Saili, Marchant (Tapuai honourable mention)
Wing - Earle (Ibitoye if he can sort defence)
FB - Brown (need successor in next couple of seasons)
The dream is we get both Snyman and Kpoku. If we go by rumours
that have gained traction lately we could have a team sheet that
looks something like this...
1 Marler
2 Baldwin/Crumpton
3 Sinckler
4 Snyman
5 Symons/Kpoku/Horwill
6 Robshaw/Clifford/Chisholm
7 Smith/Clifford/Evans
8 Dombrandt/Chisholm
9 Care
10 Smith
11 Ibitoye/Murley
12 Saili
13 Marchant
14 Earle
15 Brown
The positions with the "/"s become (imo) the most hotly
contested in terms of who starts most games. Those positions
without "/"s seem to me to have a clear, top drawer first choice
occupant (N.B. Landajo at 9 and Botta at 1 would bring real
stength-in-depth to those positions but would remain clear
second choice in my mind).
What's really good to see from the above is that Gussy's
recruitment focus is in the pack. Our backline is one of the
best in the Prem already. Back row will continue to be an area
of strength if rumours of incomings are true (although I
somewhat doubt we'll be seeing both Kwagga Smith and Will Evans
coming in). With either one of those guys in we look strong in
that department. Was so nice to be able to put "/"s in at hooker
and second row - two of our historically weakest positions.
Baldwin is still a bit of a "meh" for me but at the same time I
can't help thinking that he's probably exactly the type of
hooker that would prove a roaring success for us - someone who
can do the basics very well, consistently.
Let's hope as many of these rumours as possible come to
fruition!

I think we need to strengthen Loose head (Boyce will be heading
to Bath and Lambert returning potentially). We need at least two
extra loose heads.
Hooker, I like Crumpton and Elia, I would be going after
Singelton at Worchester but think he has signed for Sarries.
Locks look good if we make the two signings aforementioned.
Back row, Will Evans Kwagga Smith I'm happy with either or both.
No8 Clifford, chisholm and Dombarant have that all wrapped up.
9/defo need better back up for Care
10 happy with Smith ans Lang, maybe bring in an older head to
help there development.
Wingers hmmm i get the feeling we will be seeing a decent high
work rate winger coming in. I like Earle, Ibotoy and Murley.
Chisholm snr is a good back up.
Full back Brown and Morris are good 1& 2
I think wee are looking good this year. I'm sure Heineken cup
rugby will help with recruitment too.

As mentioned, Botta is the Argentinian loosehead we've been
linked to - he'd be a good 17. Agree we need another probably.
Hopefully Auterac can get fit - he's a big lump so hoping Adam
Jones can unlock something with him. If there's anyone who
can...

Again, we've been linked to Landajo - spot on for the type of SH
we need if you ask me. Experienced, established international
(84 caps, which makes him joint 5th on list of Argentina caps
and only 3 caps behind Contepomi in 1st with 87). He's a real
livewire who is also not chaotic or messy and brings control.
Think he captained Argentina for quite a long stretch as well.
Don't forget we have Niall Saunders and Calum Waters - both look
to have great attributes and look tasty for the near future, but
Landajo is the kind of proven quality we need to be able to step
straight in as second-choice 9. Learning from Care and Landajo,
I can't see how Saunders and Waters could have a better chance
at becoming great SHs themselves!

Only what someone told me so the chances of any truth in it are
very slim.

Cheers doddsy333 for the valued contribution of the dumb emoji
thing. Perhaps instead of just doing that something could have
been contributed.

the logic from Kpoku's pov - Itoje and Kruis still both
relatively young and starting for England. The monster that is
Skelton there too. Where's his (regular) game time going to come
from?

Nothing concrete just some rumours from Sarries fans and given
reason was the same about game time available.

I guess I was asking why he's been linked to Quins specifically?
Just that he's a Londoner and the fact that we're in the market
for a lock?
I'm feeling like it's unlikely we're in the market for 2 locks -
although I'd like us to be. Stan South feels to me like another
Charlie Matthews...

He said it was the Gustard link and wanting to stay in the
London area.

Crumpton has grabbed his chance well at hooker. I still think
Elia will be our first choice soon enough. For a front row
player, and a stocky hooker, he has a great step and very good
hands. I thought he played really well on Saturday.

I cannot see kpoku leaving sarries. I get the game time argument
but he's still young and should get plenty with others on
international duty
Think the rumour of young from falcons is far more plausible.
We really need to replace Glynn, Merrick and horwill though.
Hard to see horwill's injury problems improving
